We've been busy around here.
Finished the annual on the SNJ.
Had to pull a cylinder. #3 had a portion of the ear which the cowl support bracket bolts onto crack and fall off.

Thanks for posting, Rich. Seeing an SNJ with the side panel off brings back some fond memories.

Rich,
The reason the ear broke is alot of times, people tighten the cowling down too tight. I would tighten the cowl enough where I could shake it about a inch up and down,That way when the engine warms up and expands, it has some where to go. I never had a cowl or ear crack. Planes that had the cowl so tight you could not move them, had cracks and broken ears.

A new A/C should be showing up in the near future-

The Mk XVIII should be like those typical Christmas gifts that keep you busy for days assembling the thing. Hopefully it comes with easy to follow instructions.
The T-6G that is here is showing old airplane syndrome-

The fabric wasn't that bad but had been done in the mid 80's. This elevator control surface seems to have been sprayed with Imron but without a primer. I have found Imron from the 70's/80's will let moisture be absorbed through the paint. I have seen bad corrosion issues in other A/C with Imron over Bondo as well. The primer actually does the protecting of the metal. In this case the the fabric along with the Imron has set up some areas of significant corrosion to deal with. Many of the washers on the screws that attach the fabric to the ribs also were rusted.
More later.

I think Warbirdkid is referring to Tom Friedkin (seller of many Toyota's) and his brother, Dan Friedkin. Interesting that N1TF isn't included in the list BDK provided. She is by far my favorite of the bunch:

When I have met the Friedkins, Tom was the father and Dan was the son.

didn't he/they buy Dieckman's F8F??

well it's some Iwo scheme; either Enchantress or one from the 458th FS (that way I get my tail stripes and dual antennas and don't get yelled at:)). Or maybe My Achin' A$$. The better question is whether we'll be back to a republican administration by the time she's ready to fly. Rich?
