Hmmmm....well Fuddy Duddy came to Aluminum Overcast's rescue once. I'd love to see her out and about.

Rich,

Haven't seen you posting in awhile. You heading to Geneseo this year?

Yup, my Duxford trip got pushed back since the Mossie won't be ready, so I'll be at Genny. It was a long winter, and I was exhausted. Now I'm recharged. I already skipped two shows and I'm still looking at up to 24 shows this year. See you at Genny?

Rich

Speaking of geneseo, when is that show gonna get big again? I remember going there as a kid and there were multiple B-17's, the B-24 and the Lancaster from hamilton there. I havent missed a show there since 04 when I was deployed, I love the current show but miss the good old days when Fuddy was there, even kathleen.

Meaning no disrespect to those running it now (and I think it's a great "mid-sized" show anyway), I don't think it will ever regain that "8 4-engine bombers" status unless some billionaire were to take over or underwrite it. It's simply a different business climate now, and with fuel and operating costs, the 1941HAG is not the Rod Lewis museum when it comes to funding an airshow. They can't afford to outlay all of that money and then have bad weather, imho. The area just isnt supported by a large amount of facilities either, hotels, restaurants, etc. At the time of the last big bomber show ('92?), a B-17 probably went for $120,000 and fuel was probably $1.29/gallon (not to mention insurance and engine costs nowadays).

i have heard that before as well, but nothing has been on the website about it so who knows? :drinkers:

Well, you should get Scott Thompson's "Final Cut" and read all about it.
</PLUG>

Mr. Brooks did indeed recover a B-17G from Canada, and work was recently being
done to it, prior to last week's event.

That's right, according to my 4th edition of "Final Cut" work on the Dyke lake B-17 started this past winter. :D

On this theme, does anyone have "inside information" as to when the next newly-restored B-17 might take to the air? I'd guess "Picadilly Lilly", maybe 2013, but that's not an educated guess, more of a hopeful one, as I have no idea of the resources they're putting into the effort. :)

So, I'm guessing the LGBT community is happy about this?

Thanks for that reply, and I meant no disrespect to the HAG guys either, I'm just darn glad someone is putting on a show there. My dad's house is not for from there in Leroy so he used to take me and my younger brothers when we were kids. Now I take my boys up there every year, so we've got 3 generations going tp the show every year now.
I guess I just miss the older days and want my kids to be able to see what I did.

Got a question or two.

Which B-17's are being restored to airworthy condition. I know picadilly lilly in chino, and champagne lady in urbana oh. Is miss angela being made airworthy? I'd love to see her.
How many B-17's are currently flying and what are they?

Last one. Back in the day, geneseo used to have 2 B-17's, fuddy duddy and Kathleen. I know when the owner died (bomber Bob Richardson) there was some issues with what to do with the a/c in his will. Anywho, as far as I've heard, she ended up in seattle as "Boeing bee". Is that right?
I know Fuddy is in bakersfield california.

Don't forget the Desert Rat also in Illinois. I think there is also one more on the way, kind of a mystery ship.

I believe Fuddy went to John Wayne Airport in Orange County CA.
Part of a collection there in a museum.
