The only thing that was actually newsworthy is the fact that Trace Gallagher & Megan Kelly apparently don't know the first darn thing about aircraft

Saw the same piece and had to laugh it off as typical of ALL, 24/7/365 news organizations; the motto of most appearing to be, "Why let the facts get in the way of a good story."

Yes, they showed a wartime picture of a razorback P-51 alongside a modern photo of a stock, restored P-51D while trying to explain the modifications to GG to make it go faster. (What a concept. Isn't that why they call it 'racing?')

Gallagher then went on to explain how GG stalled. Hmmmmm.

Oh that news organizations WOULD come to WIX. Perhaps they'd learn something.

Sorry, I should say "wisdom"... This "wisdom" applies to so many things in life.
Good statement Jack.

So....
...amateur paint experts are also closet crash investigators...

What an astounding co-incidence!

Hey guys, not to trivialize this horrific event, but what were the pole positions of the various aircraft at the time of the accident? Etc...

Strega had about a 100 yard lead on Voodoo. Leeward was in third place high and outside of Stu Dawson in the Rare Bear. They were about a half a straightaway back from the leaders.

Dreadnought was in fifth. Dan Vance was a very distant sixth in Sawbones, about half the course back.

I don't think the media is going to go directly to the WIX and claim that 'we' solved the problem and therefor report on it.

They will go directly to the FAA, RENO officials and eyewitnesses.

You'd be suprised. They will go anywhere where they might find a tidbit of information, especially when the FAA, NTSB and other official entities dry up on information.

Thoughts and prayers to everyone involved. The photos in the news today show GG from a side view. Is it glare ?, or do they not show the pilots head. Just not trusting my eyes. Anthony

I just wanted to take a moment to express my condolences to Mr Leeward's family and all those families affected by the crash. It's pretty horrible to watch the video and see the photos.

I've always wanted to go to Reno and hear the Merlins and Radials screaming overhead... really screaming too, not just cruising around at an airshow. In spite of Friday's crash, I would still like to go someday.

This truly horrible event and the related thread discussion makes the Panchito gear collapse controversy and subsequent internet censorship/scrubbing look pretty silly.

Having been directly involved in an accident and the aftermath, I can confirm this as several media outlets went to forums where a couple of disgruntled former employees were throwing mud (absolutely groundless at that) and started using their statements trying to paint the accident and company as a "shoddy operation". The FAA and NTSB cleared the airline and plane of any faults, it was a simple mistake made by the crew that wasn't caught in time, but that didn't stop the owner spending the next 4 years fighting the problems those forum posts caused (legally and publically).

Prelim report on the NTSB data site for the B-25 incident.
