The Yellow Rose developed a little problem on the way to Lancaster this morning...left engine developed high fuel pressure, high oil temp, and low oil pressure. Crew decided to return to base and had just turned around when the left engine quit. Thankfully they were just about to Austin. Returned to San Marcos for a real single engine landing. Panels are being pulled as I type this, then we'll check the oil screen and other things to see if we can figure out what's going on.

I'll keep you posted!

Glad you made it home safely, congrats to the flight crew for showing their skills. Sorry to hear you won't be at Lancaster, hope to see you in Midland in a few weeks.

That's why the check rides aren't easy, those skills come in handy...

Time to bust out the YR Tshirts. I'll buy some!

Oil screen had some nice, pretty, shiny metal pieces in it. We're down until we can come up with $50K for an overhaul it seems. Doesn't look like we'll make Midland unless we can raise some bucks real quick.

Great idea Chunks! I'll get with our PX officer/Squadron Leader and see how much they are. Hey, maybe we can make some special engine shirts!?!

In the meantime, anyone wanting to make a donation toward the engine fund (even $1 will help, if we get enough of them!), the address is:

We were all concerned today at Lancaster today. We had a report that you guys had been seen over Austin headed north....then we waited...

Sorry to have missed seeing yall today, but I am super glad that the crew and airplane is home safe and sound.

Open up the PX!

Hmmm... Guess I can make this post shorter than I had planned. The magnetic plug in the sump was covered with ferrous metal and the screens had silver in them. Oil pump was very hot even after the rest of the engine had cooled completely. Losing fuel and oil at about the same time raises questions about accessory drive failure. Doesn't seem to be much point in me continuing to try to post maintenance news so I'm done...

I'll throw down the first Grant, $50.00 for the engine...

Hmmmm, we didn't cover the pucker factor in the debrief! I'd actually imagine it wasn't too bad. They knew the engine was having problems from the instruments, which is why they turned back toward the base. With the rising fuel pressure, they would have expected the engine to shut itself down after it reached a certain point, which is what I understand happened.

I understand the errant engine has been delivered to the rebuilder and it's next in line to get looked at/rebuilt. Ray should have more news about it when he gets the report.
