Mike: #60 is pretty easy as it's my airplane. It no longer is in Roanoke. I just finished moving the last pieces of equipment and box of parts from the hangar to the house tonight. We are in the process of shop design for our place in Arkansas and will be starting construction this summer we hope...Depends on what the company ends up doing on my disability and potential retirement.

Dad and I have moved equipment, parts, airplanes, tools and everything else under the sun that was in the hangar over the last three weeks. Despite all the stuff that got tossed into the trash and recycle bins, we would still be able to fill 4 tractor trailers plus part of a big flat bed trailer. And to to think it was all stuffed into a 42' Tee hangar.

Is there a F-84 displayed at Bergstrom (the airport), or just the F-4 (not counting fire training aids). I am going to note the fire aids in the "private" comments, but they won't appear in the Locator. Fire aids are usually unaccessible and often don't exist very long.

Mike,

Can't say about Austin/Bergstrom. All the aircraft listed are at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo. As for the aircraft at the fire school, they are all quite healthy, none are burned - they have a large steel mockup in the fire pits for that. The others are used for familiarization/crew extraction/emergency procedures trainers. They are accessible to the public for viewing whenever the Fire Academy has an open house.

Also, I omitted the F-15B that is also at the Fire Academy (It was airlifted in to the base via a Texas ANG CH-47 from Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls).

As for other aircraft at Goodfellow, the F-100 that used to be in front of the base Hq was sent to Shaw AFB, SC.

The T-28 on display at GAFB came from the former Reese AFB in Lubbock, the BT-13 came from NMUSAF stocks, and there is no T-6.

Thanks for the info.

I will keep it in mind the next time I drive down US-90 to Uvalde!

I have received many emails and this has been a very successful WIX thread. In short I have been swamped with input, so I am not going to reply to each message individually.

There are still a number of questions, so if you are from Texas and have a few minutes to spare, please take a look at the revised “Need Help” list below.

BTW... The list below doesn’t exactly match the Locator. After tonight’s upload they should be in sync.

Regards,

Mike

EDIT: The "Need Help" list has been moved to my most recent post.

Edit... Double Post

#33: There is a T-33 in Del Rio. It is possibly in front of the city hall. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?
#69: The Uvalde Aviation Museum is at Garner Field. Where exactly?
#78: There are two T-28s and a T-33 in a FBO hangar at Garner Field in Uvalde. Which hangar?
.........................................

#33 I answered this a couple of months ago, but it is on Hwy 90 in front of the Civic Center in Del Rio. The CC is located in the Northwest side of the city of Del Rio.

#69 Answered in a previous post.

#78, Answered in a previous post. There was the second T-28 that was located in the Museum. It was destroyed in a fatal accident here in Uvalde on 4-4-02. This aircraft was not related to the Mustang, T-28C and T-33.

I must have missed that post. I have trouble keeping up with everything posted on WIX. I'll take a look for it tomorrow.

King wrote:#69 Answered in a previous post.

Aaahhh right... I forgot to update #69 in the "need help" list. What is should have read as was, "Which hangar is the museum?".

Which hangar is the FBO?

Hi, Mike!

#2: The Rio Grande Valley Wing is at the Brownsville/ South Padre Is. International Airport. Which hangar?

955 South Minnessota Ave., Brownsville, TX 78521

25 54' 12.80" N

#11: The Central Texas Wing Museum is at the San Marcos Airport. Which hangar?

29 53'11.74" N
97 51'46.94" W

#23: Is there a UH-1 at a VFW in Conroe? If so where exactly?

Yes there is. You have the photos already. Only thing is, I do not have the street address for it. I have searched Google Earth, but could not find the location. I recall it to be just one or two blocks East from I-45 Northbound.

#33: There is a T-33 in Del Rio. It is possibly in front of the city hall. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?

Hwy 377 and Highland St.

29 23'01.40" N
100 54'15.73" W

#42: Is there an H-19 displayed at the Rio Hondo Airport in Harlingen. If so where exactly?

Rio Hondo is not in Harlingen.

Yes, there was a derelict H-19 at the Texas Aviation Museum, Rio Hondo Location, and I have pictures, if you want them. The museum has closed and some of the aircraft went to Stinson Field, San Antonio.

This where the H-19 USED to be (next to the hangars and under the trees):

26 13'48.93" N
97 33'39.24" W

#47: There is a F-101 in a storage compound at Ellington Field in Pasadena. Where exactly?

Not in Pasadena, though. I believe it is more South Houston than Pasadena.

Not a storage compound, but actually the compound is the grounds for the Texas Air National Guard in Ellington Field.

These are some of the aircraft on display at Ellington; the F-101 does not show on Google Earth, but I have the photos:

F-16:
29 36'42.79" N
95 10'16.66" W

T-33:
29 36'52.40" N

95 10'41.46" W

KC-135 (??) "Vomit Comet"
29 36'10.17" N
95 10'27.74" W

Super Guppy:
29 36'32.60" N
95 10'03.95" W

#50: Apparently there is a T-33 in a hangar at Cypress River. Where exactly?

Maybe the third time'll be the charm:

Lat: 32 44' 34.11" N
Long:94 18' 15.32" W

I have photos of the wings and wing-tip tanks outside of the hangar, while the fuselage is inside the hangar indicated by coordinates above.

#73: Apparently there are two aircraft displayed at the Easterwood Field Airport near College Station, including an UH-1. Where exactly?

There were four CONFIRMED (with photo) derelict UH-1Hs. Location though, escapes me.

#74: There is a pole mounted F-86 located on the feeder road of US-75 North of Dallas. Where exactly is it?

Actually - my fault - it is WAAAAAY North of Dallas, in Sherman TX:

American Legion Post 29,

33 38'53.64" N
96 36'39.73" W

#78: There are two T-28s and a T-33 in a FBO hangar at Garner Field in Uvalde. Which hangar?

There WERE two T-28s and a T-33, when I saw them back in 2001. Situation must have changed by now.

The F-84 is at the American Legion Post 490. I just realized I had that one double counted.

No problem. If they are still there it shouldn't be too hard for someone to find them.

OK. I already had that one, but it is nice to eliminate the double count. That is another nice thing about the Locator, it provides a way to correct all of the bad info out there.

Good point. The wording is important.

Your coordinates are right on! That's the UH-1H in Conroe!!!!!!

Mike:

A friend of mine used to have several T-28s at this location on Piper Road, Pasadena, TX.

He has moved elsewhere in the Pearland Area, and I have not been by his old place in a while:

29 33' 11.50" N
95 19' 38.63" W

And this is the F-100 Super Sabre at the Fayette Regional Airport, La Grange, TX:

29 54' 32.40" N
96 56' 50.24" W

Now, this is why you should never trust your memory (well, actually why I nevers should trust mine).

The Four UH-1Hs that I told you being derelict at a field near College Station, TX were actually here:

30 37' 55.07" N
96 28' 32.76" W

You are not kidding!!! Sometimes, or maybe often, that is all the information I have to go on. Finding them, even with Google Earth and good images, it can be a needle in a haystack search. When I include questions like that in the Locator is it usually a long shot hope that someone from the area will read it and confirm or deny the existence of the airframes. It does happen from time-to-time.

Tulio wrote:Your coordinates are right on! That's the UH-1H in Conroe!!!!!!

Excellent.

The Big thicket aircraft have been relocated to the Cleveland, TX airport, in the far western most hangar, nearest to the runway.
