Man... where to start?
I've always been a creative kinda guy since childhood, and I guess that I'm an artist of sorts because my friends and family keep telling me so...
Anyhoo, I approach model building as an art form, and here's a couple of my favorites.
And here's one which I've been 'finishing' for the past three years...
I'll have to live three lifetimes to finish all these... and this isn't even a third of the stash!
I used to draw alot, mostly aircraft and such, but haven't done anything in a very long time... about ten years. This first piece was among the last that I finished.
I found cats to be much easier to render than things with wings, and this was one of the first kitty-kat drawings that I did...
I guess I chose to draw cats because I just adore the little furballs. Here's the only two survivors from a herd that once numbered twelve...
Kit-Kat, aka Buddha, Cajun Kitty, and The Lunatic...
CC, aka the Brat Cat, and Hobbs
Getting back to the creative stuff... I gave up drawing to try my hand at some digital work. Here's a few examples...
Composite photo... Before...
After...
This was a black and white photograph that I turned into a digital painting with Photoshop. No automatic 'art' features or plug-ins or anything of that sort were used on this. It was all done by hand using layers, color settings, levels, opacity changes... a buncha work...
This was a fun little thing I did using a friend's model, a NASA photo, some shots of flying telephone poles and a rather famous Sopwith Camel pilot...
Although a bit less creative in its simplest form, screenshot art is something which I am seriously considering taking up. This was a simple experiment with a grab from the IL-2 Sturmovik flight-sim. Not too much was modified here, but in the future I'd like to try to recreate some historical events using custom-made paint schemes (called skins in the sim-modder's universe) and a bit of compositing.
I've recently taken on the challenge of coloring black and white photos with photoshop. Many colorizations look like... well, colorizations. But I'm trying to achieve a realistic effect. I'm not there yet, but am getting close. This is my second serious effort... the photo is of my sister and was taken by my Dad back in the 80s... (as if you can't tell by that hair!)
These days the only 'conventional' artwork that I do is painting patches on leather. I also make wooden plaques... which reminds me, I'm supposed to send a sample to somebody here on the forum... I haven't forgotten!
Here's one of my favorite patches...
I'm an auto racing fan... mostly casual, though and I rarely watch a race these days. My Dad was the
real motor-head in the family, and my love of vintage F1 and sports car racing came from him. Here's a couple examples of the kind of stuff I'm into...
Niki Lauda at The Glen, 1976
I
LOVE CanAm... especially the original series. This shot was also taken at The Glen, but this was after the original series had died out. They're still groovy cars though...
Both of the car photos above were taken by my Dad. Besides family, cars were probably his favorite subject to capture on film. Here's an example of his other favorite subject... and as it happens, my other favorite too...
And a few more of his shots...
As you may be able to tell, my Dad was a shutterbug... so I grew up with a camera in my hands. (and in my face, more often than not!) However, I'm no photographer... someday I hope to be as proficient as Dad was, and maybe I'll even be fortunate enough to shoot a few lovely gals with the stellar results that he usually got. But until then, here's a few weak attempts at 'art' through the lens...
Oh, I'm a big OTR fan. (Old Time Radio) One of my absolute faves is Jack Benny...
I'm also a big music fan and will listen to almost anything including big-band/swing. I will NOT listen to rap or anything along those lines. There's only one thing missing from rap, and that's the 'c' in front of the 'r'...
Anyhoo, I'm a guitar kinda guy and love all sortsa axe men like SRV, EC, JJ Cale, David Wilcox, Billy Gibbons, Fred Tackett, Chet Atkins, Leo Kotke... but my absolute favorite is this guy right here... the original sultan of swing. Someday I hope to be able to do the things with a guitar that he can do...
Yeah, right... and monkeys might fly outta my... well, you get the picture!
Uh, lessee... now that you're all bored to death, one last thing. There's only one sport... and that's the coolest sport on earth. Click the lower banner in my sig for a looksee...
