I saw it when it was first released at the Richards Gebaur AFB theater....I was just a kid, 7 or 8.
I didn't find it THAT funny then...nor do I today. It has its moments but tries far too hard.

Honestly, I was more entertained by the Beech, J-1 and Bell 47 (all of which I could identify at the time).

Of all the times I've seen the movie, my favorite was the night (in '02 IIRC) the Cinerama Dome ran a 70mm print with many of the surviving actors in the audience - got to meet Marvin Kaplan, Edie Adams and Stan Freberg. Also, with the detail visible in that print you could spot Paul Mantz's photo-nose B-25 in the background at the Rancho Conejo airport, and just before Culpeper's car and the two taxis turn down the alley, a building on the corner has a large orange sign reading "Nixon for Governor". They must have filmed that scene in late '62 before "...you won't have Dick Nixon to kick around any more."
