That..uh...really REALLY takes 14CFR FAApt 45 to the very limit and tests the definition of "contrast" mightily doesn't it?
Why the "L" (presumably for limited class) prefix? I would assume the goal was to be inconspicuous, so why add a non-required character to the registration marking?

The registration number can be interpreted 14 different ways by the 14 different FAA Flight Standards offices around the country. Some will say 'OK', some will say 'kinda', some will say 'no'. But none will agree on the same standard, interpreting the written rules differently in each Kingdom.....(ooops, did I say Kingdom?!!)
