darn fine paint job and it is correct.Love the semi flat as well.Ya gotta be able to keep em clean.

The colors are correct, the nose-art is not WW2-era.

Why should they be kept clean, they weren't in WW2?

Because the cost of that paint job would be a real good start.

That's up to the owners, obviously. Myself, I'd rather see a "working" warbird. Nothing like an oily, dingy Spad, for instance. :)

I agree, Noth'in better than oily / exhuast stained OD

(still waiting for a warbird with brushed on D-Day stripes or a luftwaffe aircraft with brushed on winter camoflage)

Great looking B-25

Ryan,
N116AG is registered to Aleutian Goose Adv. in Wilmington, DE. Didn't someone make a comment in the last few days about lots of warbirds registered in DE? Must be an aviation friendly place.
Doug

It seems like I frequently come across and then end up resurrecting very old WIX threads just about any time I do a little informal "research" project. Today it was this thread from 2008 and I was trying to find info online regarding the current status of Grumman HU-16 Albatross N116AG.

As far as I know, Albatross N116AG was never actually based in Delaware as someone was so adamantly certain earlier in this thread. It was (is) registered to "Aleutian Goose Adventures LLC" - a Wilmington, DE registered corporation, but it was actually based in Anchorage, AK and belonged to Terry & Terri Smith of Anchorage. In the absence of newer info to the contrary, I'd bet it still is.

The Smiths also used to own the actual "Aleutian Goose" (N221AG), the TPE331 turbine-powered G-21A that was radically modified by the Fish & Wildlife Service in Anchorage back in the early 1970's. (Contrary to its registration, it was NEVER a "McKinnon G-21G" conversion; it was designed as a model "G-21F" by Theron Smith (Terry's dad) and Jerry Lawhorn of FWS and actually built by FWS personnel in Anchorage. They based a very little bit of their work on engineering work previously done for the McKinnon G-21G and using an STC McKinnon developed for a G-21G, but it was not converted by McKinnon and it never conformed to the G-21G type design, therefore it was not actually a "McKinnon G-21G." Because the model "G-21F" was never certified or approved by the FAA as such, FWS simply claimed that their turbine Goose conversion was actually a further, highly modified example of a "McKinnon G-21G" - but it was not really. In any case, the "Aleutian Goose" is the one that crashed in the UAE last February. Terry Smith, of course, was the pilot of the DHC-3T turbine Otter that crashed August 9, 2010 in southwest Alaska, killing Sen. Ted Stevens, himself, and a couple of other people.

I was just kinda wondering what might have happened to Terry Smith's Albatross since his death. It's still registered to "Aleutian Goose Adventures" but I just can't imagine that his widow would be all that interested in continuing to maintain and operate it since his death. On the other hand, I haven't seen it listed for sale anywhere....

Delaware has no corporate taxes so you'll find everything from Boeing to cargo ships registered in DE. Most major U.S. corporations are incorported there.
