Hello Laurent:

My idea is to get a set of preliminary photos from NASA or whoever with a 5 mile width, and then see what that does for us.

Do you want to send the FOIA, or will I?

Thanks,

Chris

I would gladly do it but as i'm not a US citizen, i don't think they would give a darn about my request.

Regarding Borneo airfields, preliminary research gives disappointing results as many former Japanese airfields turned into modern airports or Palm tree plantations.

More later

Laurent

Thanks Laurent:

Where are you from? Thanks for your research, I'll put in a request to NASA this week.

Thanks,

Chris

I have an aerial photo of Singkawang II in a Dutch book which was taken on April 22nd 1945, marked Lat. 01 deg 06' N, Long. 109 deg 42'E. There are also photos of Samarinda II East and West, but no Latitudes and Longitudes are given for these.
Singkawang II and Samarinda II were originally created by the ML-KNIL pre-war as secret air bases in the Borneo jungle. Aerial attacks were made from both fields against Japanese invasion convoys approaching Miri, Kuching, Tarakan and Balikpapan. Both Glenn Martin type 166 (B-10) bombers and Brewster B-339C/Ds operated from these fields. They were abandoned after being discovered and heavily bombed by the Japanese. Neither was used by the Japanese during the war, nor were they used post-war by the ML.
