Pictures above show it as blue in the wreckage as well.

The first pics I saw did not show any blue, just the red part of the wreckage.

That thing hit at high speed and probably at a high angle of attack to shred the wing that bad. IMO Either airframe failed for some reason, he lost it and fell out of the sky with the power on, became incapacitated or bailed out. The R/H side of the engine has significant damage over the L/H side. It takes great force to tear up an engine. My buddies Rocket crash straight in at 100+ with some power and they were able to rotate the engine after pulling it out of the hole in the ground.
The blue one in the photo, can anyone read the N number? Maybe repainted or the publicity photo only represented the type and not the specific A/C or maybe Hilton had more than one over the years.
Remember it wasn't Fosset's aircraft but Hilton's.

I hope he's on a small island paradise with a couple of chicks named Ginger and MaryAnn, living the good life with a cache of booze and beef! I hope he faked his death, I admire people who do that (who aren't criminals). :)

Ok, but the plane made a smoking hole. How did the body (or if he was alive) get seperated from the plane, before the crash?

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.

The wreckage is consistent with the contrasting colors ( orange/white) on the underside of standard Super Decathalon paint scheme. This is done for aerobatic contest flying. If you look at the photos of the aircraft before the accident you will see the orange and white stripes on the undersides of the wing.

Being at that elevation on the leeward side of the mountains at 10-11 am is not a good place to be on Sep. 1st. Even if the clouds have not yet built up, the downdrafts can be really nasty. A Decathlon is not going to overcome the conditions. Those mountains are full of the wreckage of planes that took mountain flying too lightly.
The finding of no remains is not a surprise. Lots of large and small animals up there to take care of those within days. It will be interesting to see what the NTSB pulls for information from the crash scene and wreckage.

Good eyes, Hunter. Sadly, it looks like you may be right about the orange or and white being on the underside of the otherwise blue and white plane.

Newest report says some remains were found in the aircraft. Haven't identified which parts.
