He may not have had gear down, but does anyone know if he caught the #3 wire?

That is the way it appears to me also.

# 1 - There is the F-18 making a high speed pass at the same time. I don't think the F-18 would have been there in a known emergency situation, they would have cleared the airspace.
# II - The announcer can be clearly heard throughout, so if there had been a developing emergency the photographer would have heard it from the announcer.
# Tress - There is a complete lack of on ready fire equipment for this emergency. You would think they would have been on him pretty quick.

Thatss what it looks like to me ,Who was there. was there rescue waiting, What were you all seeing on Final??

Actually, it sounds like the announcer was drowned out by the F-18 making the photo pass. When you start to hear him, he's talking as if it's a known emergency because he says "...he's had an landing gear problem and once he gets stopped and we'll roll the trucks," as the noise of the F-18 fades away.

I've also noticed (oddly) that there is no FAA report filed for this.

FWIW when my T-33 had hydraulic failure (engine driven pump failed, elec emergency pump operated but was not putting out rated pressure as it should've been) and had to be landed main gear down, nose gear up, (uneventfully, with very minor damage) the FAA considered it neither an accident nor an incident. If it weren't for the fact that the tower controller got all spun up and called the FSDO, the FAA inspectors likely would've never found out about it.

Great that no one was hurt, and that the A/C is not damaged too bad.

He forgot to lower the gear. Those who have...those who will...

ATC didn't do him any favors if that is the case as they are supposed to watch each aircraft as it approached an do a scan of the aircraft to ensure that the gear is down. And if it is not, Are to prompt the pilot with "Check gear down".

I think my point was that the F-18 would not have been making that type of pass with a on going emergency happening. They would have cleared the airspace for the emergency..........especially a low alt. high speed pass like that.

Maybe, but I would also contend that no competent airboss would allow an aircraft to land against a low level high speed pass like that either.

That landing pass from the F-18 is part of the Legacy flight routine. I'd say the Airboss was pretty competent in this case.

It was the case...he forgot the gear.

Man, that sucks.

Now that it's been a while, does one have photos of the damage that was received?

They still say that in the US? Up here in Canada many years ago "check gear down" was removed from landing clearance phraseology as a method of reducing liability.
