I returned from my slightly extended round-the-world trip and found the new Warbird Digest waiting for me at the post office. Great job, Tim and all involved. It just gets better with every issue. I'm gonna have to take it to Idaho with me on Thursday and get John to autograph his cover shot!

In addition to the other assorted airplane magazines, bills, advertisements, credit card offers, and boxes from aircraft spruce and speciality; I also recieved the latest two additions of the "Girls gone Wild" DVDs courtesy of two of my students. Apparantly they don't realize that the DVD's get charged to their credit cards not mine! I've been getting them for over a year!

Thanks for your kind comments, everyone.

For those of you who do not subscribe, you should be able to take a look at the latest edition at Barnes & Noble and select Borders and Hastings stores nationwide.

Congrats to Tim and crew on another fine issue. I got mine today and It's excellent. Now we will have to inundate Tim with pictures of us doing aviation related activies while reading the magazine :)

Let me just add to the chorus of voices praising the latest issue of Warbirds Digest...great issue. Of course, if helps to have one of my favorites (the P-47) on the cover!

Did I read the issue correctly, in that there will be a special coming out on the P-47 survivors? Any idea when that will be avaiable? (my apologies if this has already been discussed)

Hi Tim, Jim et al--

Got WD#3 last week, actually; just getting round to responding now. I had wondered how long it would take for Tim to cause a P-47 to be WD's cover star... Another excellent issue. Great to see the CWH Firefly in some high-calibre magazine A2A after all this time (bravo to a perceptive Jim C for snagging the session!).

One quibble: that cover teaser "A Tale Of Two Furies"...here's ol' Steve T, Sea-Fury-crazy, thinking "hey cool, which two?" when of course one's a biplane and the other an FJ-4! But of course both those are thoroughly cool too...

Jug survivor survey? Great idea. I have a shot of the Walt Soplata one if you're interested. (Now there'd be a project, if one could find a set of P-47D wings lying about...)

I've another suggestion for a feature. Having recently seen "The Aviator" (in an old 1930s Art Deco theatre no less) I've been thinking about my "dream project", a movie about the 1949 NAR. That led me to musing again about just what survives from that and the other late-40s NAR meets. Came up with a list of about a dozen aircraft or major "bits" that remain. I think a survey like that, with period and modern photos, would be cool in WD. ("Beyond the Last Checkered Flag" or something like that.) Any comments?

Cheers and may WD keep going from strength to strength...

Steve T

Mark-

Not really a special...but a standalone book on the surviving Thunderbolts. At this point we have completed nearly two hundred pages with about 300 photographs of the survivors. Hope to have it out this summer, I am still gathering details on a couple of the survivors, which is holding things up a bit.

A book is even better than a special issue. Can't wait for it to become available!

Consider one copy already sold...

Steve-

Sounds like you should sit down at the word processor and turn that one out for us :D Seriously, we are contributor based magazine, so we are always looking for ideas...and that is a good one!

What a great magazine, another fantastic issue. i espeically liked the little data table on flying, restorations, etc...on the warbirds. nice touch that i took a while to peruse through.

And yes, chalk another edition of the p-47 suvivors mag up cause i'll definitley have one of those!
any plans on doing any other specific aircraft specials?

I can supply a couple of outside shots of the P-47D taken at MOTAT before heading to Wigram and then Oz if you don't already have that covered.

Hi Dave-

Thanks. I have several good shots of 42-8066 at MOTAT. I do appreciate the offer, however!

Brian-

Thanks for your kind comments.

The P-47 Survivors book will be followed by a number of other types. Stay tuned!

Wow, the varying delivery time by USPS never ceases to amaze me. :)
