I think every one needs to chill a little , The wall is advertizing. When you hear about a wall of flame be it osk or any other show it brings the people out. Remember people that like air shows that have the little extra,They are looking for buck rogers .Buck rogers is where the $$$$$$ are and being involved with the air show world for the last 30 years all involved need the $$ to survive. We are a group of individuals who other people look up to, and we all need to keep our planes and people together in thease times of uncerteny . pappy

Don't know if that's why they came, but it looks like they had a pretty good crowd.

Pyro's good. Makes for good photos if it's done well!

And what's the purpose of this?

Do any of the funds to pay for the fuel and explosives, come from members dues?

If it is an official CAF activity, then is it CAF supported?

Tradition does not cut it for me, supposedly the money should be used to restore and fly the airplanes?

Things like this one (and others) have seen a lot of people drop their membership...

The same could be asked of Monster truck "races" or NASCAR. Or what about the NBA or NFL? Want to talk about a waste of money. Either way it is entertainment and the crowd pays for it.

Well, I was not talking about NASCAR or Monster truck races. They do not fund raise to preserve their trucks.

As I mentioned, I enjoy the occasional view of a hollywoodesque version of an explosion (which with all the added oil and fuel does not look even close to the real thing, but I digress...) but my point was -and it has been already explained by Old Shep, the funding for the pyro doesn't go to keep the airplanes or to restore them.

That was all.

Saludos,

Tulio

Don't the airshows usually pay for things like pyro? I don't think it's usually something that would otherwise go to an aircraft. Also, hasn't Tora pretty consistently done OK financially? Frankly, while I like seeing the aircraft fly, to a lot of folks I know, the pyro helps keep the whole "simulation" interesting.

I think the kid's reaction says it all.

Listening to that kid's excitement brought back memories of airshows gone by.

He'll probably remember this airshow for the rest of his life and hopefully bring his kids to an airshow 15 years from now.

Did anyone with the Tora group film this from the air??

:D

Ryan, yes Tora does keep in the black. And for all you explosion haters remember that the fleet of airplanes they are preserving are just a bunch of replicas. Give the paying customers what they want, and if you don't like it go get yourself a hot dog when they come on.

I'm sorry, but I see these unrealistic 'explosions' to be a complete and utter waste. Must everything be dumbed down for the Great Unwashed? Ever see a real bomb explosion? NO flame, big bang and a blur as dirt and stones get blasted. Get real!

Yeah, and they should machine gun the crowd too.

Don't kid yourself that airshows are 'authentic'.

Was that for me? At age 69 and after a full career in military aviation I hold very few illusions. I've taken part in a number of air displays too, so know a little of what happens 'behind the scenes'. I stick to my point, there is no need for walls of fire, and in my opinion it is quite out of place at an air show (or anywhere else, come to that).

Well I for one would like to see an end to the watermelon bomb drops from the B-25's at Geneseo. I mean really! Are we really trying to convince the crowd that a watermelon has the same ballistic properties as a 500 lb bomb? What a waste of food. Don't these airshow people know that there are children starving in Africa or China who could eat these watermelons?!
