This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Warbirds live at;

oh great, it was Texas against the world, and Texas was winning. Now, just when the Dallas/Houston...Houston/Dallas hatefest is mostly a thing of the past, somebody wants to start it up again.

I think it was a conspiracy started when somebody claimed that Houston was the Capitol of Texas. I wouldn't wish that on a city such as Houston. Only Austin has enough weirdo's to be our capitol.

Well, I ain't gonna' play. Maybe Texas warbird owners can get together and start their own air force. And give it a really nifty name...and not put big decals on their "airforce"...just the support vehicles...and maybe the tanks. But not the naval forces.

Cozmo, nobody's startin'anything back up. I just took a stab at the locations around Houston where I know warbirds live.

You gotta admit, it's pretty amazing how many warbirds call Texas home !

So how many warbirds in Houston metropoilitan versus Duxford ?

Sun Jun 21, 2009 1:36 am

Whats the count for Duxford? I'd think Houston or Dallas Ft Worth area would have it beat... I can count over a hundred warbirds in only three airports in DFW (Addison, Lancaster, Propwash)

Not aware of that many warbirds (or any, I can think of) actually based in cities. I did once see a Junkers 52/3m land in London...

For permanently based active warbirds per square metre /yards, accessible to the public, Chino and Duxford would be up at the top, IMHO. Neither is a city.

For a week census, you'd be hard pushed to outcount Oshkosh, if you include all the a/c there with military history. Given the size of a state or a province, it's not a very useful measure, except for posing, IMHO. ;)

Chino is a city... www.cityofchino.org kinda says it in the URL

Thanks for the correction. My apologies.

I'll look out for the cow-conurbation next time. ;)

FWIW, the airfield at Chino isn't a city, and Duxford is also an airfield, near a village, in the Country of Cambridgeshire.

Rick, I want to add a couple to your list:

Waller
Dry Creek

I already know that the Brits won. No contest there.

I would vote for Dallas to be the capital of Texas, if Austin ever gives the title up. No problem moving the capitol there [it is Texas, remember?] and I would not wish to inflict on the poor, hard working, dedicated and otherwise nice Houstonians, the Texas congress, lobbyists, ex-hippies, yuppies, kickers and other groups and classifications that hang around Austin
:D :D :D :D :D

Saludos,

Tulio

No, Fort Worth would be much more deserving of the title of "Capital of Texas" if it should leave Austin. ;)

Now stop it y'all. Y'all are missing the entire concept of moving the capitol. Austin is a beautiful area, full of nice places to spend some time. So are Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio and many other places in Texas. The congress critters had it right a few years ago when they fled to Oklahoma and New Mexico.

We would most likely have to keep the capitol in Texas itself, or my first choices would have been the top of Devils tower in Wyoming, the White sands missile range, or Matamoros if it needed to be close.

If we want to get good work done in the capitol, we must move it to someplace like Dime Box, or Matagorda Island, or Sandhills State park, without moving the perks. The congress critters could not go home until the session was over. The governor would get to remain in Austin and wouldn't be under pressure to sign bad laws. We would have to make sure we elected a good governor.

Why not move it to Modest, Texas?

Oh, sorry, I forgot. There's no Modest in Texas. :hide:

They could move it to Humble, however.

Ryan - who really wishes other Texans were a bit more modest at times...

I like Lancaster, Texas, though. So good they named a bomber after it...

Just a bit of fun. ;)

This is a great thread. Thank you everyone... ;)

And, being a capitol is not all it's cracked up to be.

Would you rather have MORE?.... or LESS politicians?
