This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Well stated Chris.
If there is so much concern for this B-17, get in contact with the owner and contribute money and effort to get it restored. It takes both. Get involved and work to get the B-17 back in the air, that is the only way B-17s like Sentimental Journey fly today.

As Jim, Chris, and other have said better than I could, the family is doing what they can with what they have. I for one commend Mr. Lacey for saving her (and providing
Sentimental Journey with turrets) and his family for not having disposed of her as so many other artifacts have been.
To go along with Fortress Fan's photo of the forward fuselage in the fixture go here:

I didn't know if I should start a new thread or resurrect this one .... ( I decided to use this one )
I've tried both the links for the Lacey B-17 ~
www.b17wingsoffreedom.org and
www.thebomber.comBoth of these web sites now seem to have been discountinued.
Did the resturant close ?
Does anyone have any current info they are able to share with us ?

I'd like to contribute my $.02 to this discussion.
Both websites work as of 4 pm today. No worries. They did not go out of business.
The food at the bomber is always good, big portions are served, and when you're there ask for a tour of the museum --even if it is closed. If they can spare someone, the family always tries to accommodate visitors. It's a lot of history in a little space, and there's a jar for donations. Every little bit helps... Even though the nose is off and a milk truck struck the tail turret (which is why it was removed), it is still a surviving B-17 and that's WAAAY cool.
Thanks,
Nick

lets hope it gets some tlc. or at least put indoors and disasembled. I totally agree that a b-17 shouldn't be kept like this

We at Warbird Rescue are happy to recently become a sponsor of the aircraft. We had them on our show a few weeks ago. Jason, Art's grandson was our guest. They just secured a hangar at a local airport to move it to for restoration. They are not sure what the final plans are for final display. Restoration is slow going as it is a family project, but all work is being done in a manner so that if down the road someone wants to further restore the aircraft to fly again, it can be done. The Bomber will come down shortly and be moved to the hangar where the cockpit is currently undergoing restoration.

That was a great interview
"Worst case of wind damage I've ever seen", that cracked me up.

Perhaps they could replace the B-17 with a timed out/retired 737-200A or DC-9 since there are a bunch of them collecting rattlesnakes, scorpions, and drifting sand.
