Wow, the last set of pictures show the belly fairing panel ripped off and you can see the landing light facing the camera.
Its right in front of the blue camo hat. You can also see the fuselage/tailcone seam splitting in the second pic, what a hit.

There are inertia reel shoulder harnesses in the premier seats, if I remember right you have to lock them with a lever after you adjust them.
I have worked on the seats before, its been a long time. There are some goofy bearings held in with set screws that fell out of one I looked at on an insp.

Good to hear Jack and his passenger will be OK, as has been said before, the premier can be replaced. Hopefully with something cooler.

Yikes indeed! I was going to make a comment along the lines of "At what point does a photog, when there is an out of control plane heading toward you, do you feel threatened enough to drop your 10 lbs of equipment, so you can pump your arms and RUN at max speed?!" Then I realized there is one standing there zooming in composing the shot.......so never mind.

Wonder what the guy in the Luscombe did when he saw it coming at him?

Updated twice a week!!

Some online news stories report Jack attending a recent race, but having lost vision in one eye. Hope it's not lasting, however the articles make it sound as if it is. Continued wishes for a productive recovery to this friend of the Warbird movement ...

Jack said during an interview at the race that the loss of vision in his left eye is permanent, but he will continue flying as soon as he is cleared to. He also made a comment that sounded like he blames Oshkosh ATC for putting him in a position that caused the crash.

Who was in the left seat??

With all due respect to Jack, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The pilot-in-command is just that. You don't get checked out on the kinds of airplanes that Jack has unless you can demonstrate flying ability, good judgment, and good decision-making abilities. A pilot-in-command is never afraid to use two words - "unable" and "negative", no matter what the circumstances, unless the alternative is a less safe option than accepting an ATC clearance. Initial reports from many qualified pilot witnesses seem to point to a lack of one of those characteristics. It's really sad that Jack had to go through this traumatic experience, but he's really lucky he didn't lose his life. Hopefully some positive changes will come out of this for Jack as well as Premier pilots. I hope he gets his vision back, as next to paralysis, that's one of the worst things in the world that can happen to a pilot.

I agree that the Pilots number on job is to successfully Fly The Airplane....

The controllers seem to be in disagreement with the call made at the last minute....

But the wreck does seem to indicate a bit of Get-home-itis' cousin, land-now-itis, on the part of Jack.

I think I saw where he was quoted saying that he 'groundlooped'......???? Alrighty then.

I Love the calm unperturbed controller voices.........."Lake go around, disabled aircraft on the runway" like they see it everyday. Who knows maybe they do, you would think there would be just a little emotion in their tranmissions!
