My first stop was the airport at Lodi. After listening to that fantastic CCR song for many years I was really looking forward to seeing this place. Well... it isn't Disney World that is for sure. Anyway I had no problem finding the old DC-3 there...

Next stop was further south in Stockton at the Legion. Stockton appears to be another one of those airports which is undergoing major redevelopment. The street was a little hard to find and appeared to be somewhat rundown. It did't take too much trouble to find the place though.

A few people at the Legion indicated the Cobra is for sale. I assumed originally it was an Army loan, but maybe not. Anyway, it would not surprise me if it is moved from here, as the area looks like it is prime for redevelopment. Let me know if it changes hands.

Not far away from the Legion is Taigh Raimey's place. It was still very early, and on a Sunday morning. I didn't expect to find it open, and there was noone there. I took my picutres through the fence. Taigh has been very helpful with identifying the airframes in these photos.

I am a fan of the A-26 so viewing an Invader, even a hulk like this one, is a real treet.

Only a short distance from the Vintage Aircraft Museum I found this Beech 18 sitting on the ramp...

There is also a Draken parked on the ramp, but it is not viewable from any publically accessible vantage point. Bummer. I like the Euro jets.

Continuing south along route 99 I headed for Atwater and the Castle Air Museum. I had been looking forward to visiting this place for many years. Anywhere that has a CF-100 in their collection must be cool. The B-18, B-23 and B-36 were neat as well.

About a 15 minute drive from Castle is Merced. I had not problem finding the T-33 there as it is prominently displayed out front at the airport.

I was hoping for a good opportunity to view these aircraft, but it was not to be. I appears a proper parking lot is being built near the display site. All the construction really prevented me from getting decent pictures. Oh well, I am sure the next guy will have a much better time at it. It would have been nice to see the Mustang up closer though.

This place was one of the highlights of my day. I added this location to the Locator years ago. It is one of those olddly displayed aircraft on a roof. They don't get much more odd than this.

I have not been able to find out any information about this airframe. Civil registration N57414 doe not appear to exist. If anyone has any other ID information for this airframe or knows something about it's history please share! Post a reply here, or use the links in the airframe dossier to add some info.

Heading due south I was going to Lemoore. The first stop was a park just north of the town.

Although I was not hopeful, I was crossing my figures I could find some publically displayed aircraft at the base. I continued south from the park along route 41. The layout of the area was changed since the last sat images on Google Earth. None of the displayed planes are even remotedly close to a public vantage point.

I left Lemoore by heading due east along route 198. The intent was to get back to route 99 so I could continue south to Tularee. I missed by on ramp for route 99. As it turned out this was fortunate. Only seconds after I passed by route 99 I saw the tails of C-130 Hercs in what was possibly water bomber markings, so I made my way to the airport and found these...

This was to be my last stop of the day. This is actually a really cool diner, and it appears to be the meeting place for a motorcyle club.

Due to getting through Castle much faster than planned and saving some time on my routes I arrived at my hotel about 3 1/2 hours sooner than planned. Still plenty of light for photography. The receptionist behind the desk was happy to cancel my reservation and rebook me for another hotel in their chain in Santa Maria. With the new reservation out of the way I was back on the road headed for the next location.

Next to the Caruthers Valiant, this was another highlight of my day. I have been wanting to visit this B-17 for many years.

It certainly has seen better days. As a restoration project, it is more intact than other projects currently underway when compared to what they started with. Keep your fingers crossed. We may yet see this one go to a good home. Of course, there is another airframe displayed here...

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

At this point I screwed up. I had been on the road for about 12 hours, photographing airplanes, I had skipped lunch and was starting to get a little punchy. I should have gone to photograph the A-4 at the airport in Porterville, but missed it an punched the coordinates for Minter Field into my GPS. Oh well, next time. I did find the minter field museum without any problems...

As you can see in these photos at this point the light was dying. I had one more stop to make, so I didn't waste any time.
