Hey, not often I see you on WIX...Yeah, "Ace" is (imo) the best of several of Spencer Dunmore's books I've read. I acquired my copy, I think, at one of the spares sales the local library used to hold every year or so. (Got some pretty good stuff that way).

I'm the one who's surprised someone else--in the UK, too--has heard of "Ace": didn't think Mr Dunmore's books were that widely known outside Canada. BTW he lived in Burlington, next door to Hamilton, for a long time.

And as a film...oh yes indeed. Were I a Peter Jackson, there are about four or five flying films I'd be looking to make, and "Ace" is one of them. (I call it a "WWII Blue Max" for that reason; it seems like a movie even though it isn't!)

Cheers

S.

I haven't seen one of my favorite authors mentioned.

Mark Berent's Vietnam Air War series being with "Rolling Thunder, Steel Tiger, Phantom Leader, Eagle Station and Storm Fighter"...All GREAT reads.

All Fiction but anchored in fact really tells the story of unselfish bravery exhibited by the F.A.C.'s, Huey Pilots, Close Air Support, Air to Air and Bombing the North by Thuds. It's all there to read by a great story teller
who has been there and done that.

Tom,
I used to take care of Mark Berent's T-6 when he had it. He lives in Scottsdale and I just talked to him the other day. I am trying to write a book that is a collection of stories from my years of playing with Warbirds, so I called and asked for some advise. Neat guy.
I do have all of his books, both hard back and paperback, all autographed.

Lonely Kind of War by Marshall Harrison.

Great OV-10 stuff written by a real FAC pilot.

Raven

The Dale Brown stuff is pretty good if you like techno thrillers that center on aviation. His first is called Flight of the Old Dog.

I Could Never Be So Lucky Again by Jimmy Doolittle

There are several books by Richard Herman, the first was War Birds.

There is a series called the Seventh Carrier by Peter Albano.

For a post WW III scenario Mack Maloney wrote a series of books called Wingman. You'll have to suspend your knowledge military jet operations but it's a pretty good series.

How could no one mention 'Rag wings and heavy Iron' by Martin Caidin? Hilarious warbird stories that make you proud to have been part of the whole 'warbird movement' of the 60' 70's and 80's if you were there...

Is there a part in that one where they are approaching an airport in the states in the Me108 (can't recall where), and when the tower calls, he starts speaking in a really thick German accent? That one made me laugh out loud!

One book I have read twice because it is so interesting is Leonard Mosley's book about filming the BOB movie:
"Making of Battle of Britian".

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it!

Samuel Hynes's Flights of Passage is an overlooked classic. As is Flight of Passage by Rinker Buck, but then, that isn't a warbird book.
