On this picture, it looks like one of the ground crew left the retractable step out on the fuselage. I wonder if the pilot even noticed? Anyone know how much vibration it would cause in flight? Can someone verify that it won't create any damage if left out in flight?

The step is cable actuated from the tail gear. When the tail gear retracts, the step retracts, when the gear extends, the step extends. No ground crew is needed. This is a feature found on the F4U-5 Corsairs.

Oh, wow, I had no idea. I learned something new! Thanks for the info.

B24A - ably flown by Col. Ken Hyman, Co-Pilot Col. Ole Nygren.

The B24 Veteran Pilot Brumby was unanimously "given" the jump seat on the ride that BomberFlight was on. No arguments would have been brooked, regardless!

Mr. Newton was last seen repairing the burst radiator on Glacier Girl.

All the inside scoop I have.

Thanks for posting the details of the B-24 flight Spanner. As one of the other riders on board ~ you are just as qualified to respond as me ! :D

Elroy 13 ~ maybe you should spend less time marshalling the B-17 .... and more time taking great pictures !

Thanks Peter! Well I marshall when I'm needed. A friend sent me a picture that was taken on Sunday afternoon that is incredible. I will try and post it on her behalf tomorrow.

Thanks for looking after Birto Brumby. He was our guest at the autograph tent and his family bought him the flight. He flew 30 missions with the 458th BG, and I took high res. pics of his logbook he brought out to the show. Hey Spanner, he has been our guest at the WHS open house before, and I will be bringing him to the next one

On one mission, a piece of flak went through his hand striking the yoke actually breaking it! He found the piece of flak and you can see it glued in the center.
