They just finished running the ol' Shack up and overall, it did fine. The #1 engine wasn't too happy to begin with, but straightened up eventually. It also has a fuel leak towards the rear of it's nacelle that will have to be addressed, but other than that, everything else looked like it was fine...at least from my perspective outside the airplane.

Here are some pictures from the event. I'm sorry, but I've not figured out how to change the shutter speed on my camera, so y'all will just have to imagine the prop blades moving much faster.

I was running the power cart one time a few years ago during an engine start on the Shack. Standing in front about 15 feet away really is weird to watch them blades turn!

Bill, if it is... please get shots! I won't be able to make it for that one I am afraid :-( If you hear more, call me at 480-309-0454.

To my knowledge, they are still planning on departing Midland tomorrow. I'll post more details as I get them.

Well sadly, Mr. McHenry has left Midland. As of about 12:45 local time, it was headed West towards Tucson. Below are a few pictures of it's departure...

One thing I never noticed before on the airplane was a stencil that was painted on the inside of the #1 engine cowling. This was obviously put on there when the airplane was taken out of service with the Royal Navy back in 1991. I found it ironic that I spotted it for the first time on the day of it's last flight. In case you can't quite make it out, it says, "The Griffon 58, End of an Era, 23 Jan. '91" ........

Here it is taxiing out.......

And it's final takeoff and fly by  .......

A real shame to see her get her wings clipped after this final flight but I can't think of any better place for her to end her flying career!. She does look a bit patchy and rough. If they repaint her, I hope they preserve the stencil on that cowling Gary!

The Shack arrived safely to a fairly large crowd and press coverage from at least two TV stations. I don't have photos right now but I know there were a couple of other WIX members there and I'm sure someone will have some soon.

Mr McHenry arrived over PASM at 2:25pm MST. it made one high pass over Davis-Monthan AFB. The first photo taken with 300mm lens, 2nd processed by photoshop. The other shots were on the ground coming to Pima and at the gate inside Pima. Questions what is photo 8 and what type antenna is photo 9 ( I know it is not a large sparkplug)??

Photo 8 is one of the heaters for the cabin. Photo 9 is part of the "Orange Harvest" radar system. It's an antennae designed to pick up and display on one of the scopes any radar waves that pick up the Shack.

I love the big Avro. Its such a shame. If I win the lottery any time soon I'll be tipping up at Pima with a big fat cheque.
