No, I was up there to get the A-26 and C-119 ready to fly to Phoenix and the 4Ys were in the hangar under going inspection. They got the heated hangar, I was working on the snow covered ramp.

Thinking outside of the box for a moment;
I watched Tanker 123 make some practice runs at the Knoxville airport (KTYS) back in 1996. There is a small base of operations there that is operated twice a year for a couple of weeks. Now they use P2V's.
It was really cool to see the old bomber come droning in to make a bombing run and release that big spray of water.
It's never been done before, but how cool would it be to keep that functional on an otherwise airshow ready warbird? Waterbombers are a rarity in most parts of the country and would have some appeal with the eco-friendly feel good crowd.

I watched 123 at Knoxville too and took a few pictures. The folks at the Cherokee Aviation terminal (I think it was Cherokee at the time) let me walk right out to the a/c while it was being serviced.

I lived near Boulder, CO in the early '80s, and used to watch the Privateer tankers stationed at Jeffco Airport. I have some pics somewhere of tanker 121 doing run-ups, but I never got any flying shots (would have been useless to try with the camera I had at the time.) They did a couple water drops at an airshow there once, but naturally I forgot my camera that day!

I was at TYS to see the Liberty Belle in June '07 and there was a SP-2H Neptune (N4235T #9) there. A nice added bonus.
Dave would love to see more shots of 123 at TYS.

I just read in the new issue (25) of Warbird Digest that they are planning on putting the old girl back to military configuration and "keepng it airworthy".

yank's says almost all of there aircraft are airworthy but there never flown, and some don't even have n numbers. So it seems doubtfull that the PB4Y will return to the air again.

This isn't true actually. Most of them may not fly, but Yanks have several aircraft which do take to the air. I believe that their Lockheed Electra flies, and one or two others. There is every possibility that the PB4Y will fly again some day... but there must surely be a huge amount of work done on her to get the aircraft back in military configuration again.

Actually what Ethan said is true, with only trivial exceptions. I wouldn't bet on this ever flying again.

Last time I was there I remember the P-38,hellcat and p-47 off the top of my head not having n-numbers,but it's been a few years so I have to go back there. Do they have n-numbers now?
