Steve, Andy. Sorry you've felt you had to go. The general discussion area was one I never frequented but having read some of the posts and having got the general idea of whats been happening, I sympathise a lot more with your decision to leave than I intially did. Hopefully, when the forum gets its act together, then you may return?

It was at that point that I asked myself had I the patience to read through this anymore and the answer was no.

Sounds like you do indeed need to chill out mate, and come back later!

Though I've seen the same knob on other Yak-11s, the rest of the cockpit doesn't look very much like the people at Yakovlev put it there (English dials!), and it was a fair question as to what the knob did (I'd like to know too!). The H&S remark had a smiley next to it, but was a valid question too - if the knob is in that position most of the time, it'd make a hell of a mess of your bonce in a crash.

It wasn't an 'armchair expert' post, it was a simple question using a bit of humour to mask a reasonable concern about such a big bit of metal sticking out. Hardly reason for upset or distress...

Ref the Indian thread, I think you may be being a bit too sensitive there old chap.
We all kow that there are a few inventive restorations in India. These all appear to be painted in the same way. I have to admit my first thought was that the paint looked funny but knowing the background a bit and seeing that they are under cover, didnt feel the need to post. In any case its a great collection.

As someone (Peter A?) said in the very next post, they managed to achieve something that we have totally failed to do, preserve a Wapiti. Good on them!

As for the Yak, well I too read that as humour.

As for Flypast, well I am staying. I'm not going to let the likes of Flood and that idiot webbie take that away from me.
Quite franky its a problem of our own making. He craves attention and "we" gave it too him, the more we ignore him the more he will be wound up by it. Eventually he will go away.

Steve, if you are worried by the anti Americanism there, you should see some other aviation related BB's (PPRuNe and the like - and thats supposed to be for professionals.). I think you need to take most of this on Flypast with a pinch of salt and rise above it.

As for the knurled knob in the Yak, it's there to open the airvent beneath the windscreen and is usually protected by a leather pad on a rather large bracket so as if the worst happened you'd stuff your head into a leather covered pad rather than a nasty knob.
Can I go back to sleep now???
