First and foremost, it's great that the pilot walked/swam away from this one.

If the pilot had walked away from this, considering where the plane came down, I think the Pope would have probably posted in this thread by now ;)

Thanks Jim. Those are spooky! Kinda strange seeing one so pristine underwater when we are used to seeing them 60 years after the fact.

Thankfully the pilot is OK! But I appreciate the reenacting joke.

Wow. sad to see her like that after all the time they took putting her together. :( I hope she'll get to dry off soon!

I'm glad to see the report (hopefully true) that she's in only 3 meters of water. That doesn't lessen the enormity of any restoration project that lies ahead, but at least there's no need for an ROV deep water recovery.

Is anyone personally familiar with what was involved in the re-restoration of the salt-water Corsair? I saw an article on this many years ago that I think said the re-restoration effort was on a par with the original restoration.

I hate to say it, but it might be cheaper just to buy another new Flug Werk project rather than totally disassemble every last nut and bolt from that airplane since it was exposed to salt water and has a very high chance of getting corrosion if not re-restored properly.

Excellent. Looks like minimal impact damage- getting all the corrosive salt water out of it will be the real challenge.

Good show to the pilot for getting it down in such decent condition, and good show to the recovery team for pulling it up without wrecking it any further!

Very glad to see pilot and aircraft are OK, I was fortunate enough to see both last year at Flying Legends. I've heard nothing but good things about the pilot... his personality AND flying abilities.
Question... and apologies if this is silly/picky... whatever  . Did the websites airbrush out the swastika or has it been removed from the aircraft?
