This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Just for the fun of it, here are a few pictures I took of 39-0031 down in Quito, Ecuador. I took these sometime in the early 1990s.

It might just be me but does ellice_island_kid remind anybody else of HarvardIV / A2C?

Oh no, not again! This would make 5 aliases for Chris on this forum.

Now that is a seriously pretty aircraft! A little bit of art deco creeping in, IMHO. Gorgeous. Thanks, Brad.
My book collecting tends to focus around memoirs of aircrew who flew in the 'forgotten' theatres and often on forgotten/unsung types. For some reason I find the road less travelled a fascinating place to be hence a continued love affair with things like the B-23, Marauder and Baltimore in RAF and SAAF service etc etc.
I take it there's been no further developments on the Dragon that's for sale?

Brad - thanks for the shots!
When I bounce out of NCOA in a week or so I will send some photo I took at McChord in 99 or so.

I did some digging.
I think the B-23 in question is this one:
48 (c/n 2734) to RFC at McKellar Nov 7, 1944. To Pacific Lumber Co as NC67000 (some sources have Howard Hughes as
being associated with this plane). Reregistered as N67000 in 1954. Crashed prior to Jan 1964.

Interesting thing I just noticed about the B-23. The prop arc's appear to be aligned with some of the plexi panels in the nose. Not a good combination in icing conditions!!!

Brad, got any pix of the McChord PBY-5A project, N4760C ?

Sorry, but the font on those tail codes was driving me crazy...

(and fixing them at that resolution was like playing Tetris!

)

What's the deal with those propellor blades? They look really long and slender. Seem to be a lot different from those for a B-25 or TBM. ANyone know?

Sorry Doug but the only pictures I have are from several years ago...and it's been about the same amount of time since I last saw them! If I dig them up I'll holler at you.

Just a quick question? Was the tail turret on the B-23 was it a single mount or a twin like the B-17? Was it a a single 30 caliber or a single 50 caliber, or twins?
