[quote]I purchased UH-34D 150255, USMC combat history, and am restoring her back to original Vietnam configuration. [quote]
I sent my cousin Tom a email and asked him to check his logbook has his first combat tour was flying H-34s in SVN.

I was thinking about Mercer field, but just saw that's another yellow H-34.

if you put one on a flat bed truck, how much do they weigh? I mean in the condition there in. Can they be trucked using regular highways?

I imagine there are a LOT of would-be warbird rescuers who could use one of these airframes as a means to get into the game. I mean geez, a thousand bucks? The catch is going to be trucking them out of there, which no doubt would at least triple a person's investment.

Imagine though, sidsiko already has a number of the historical birds identified. The history is right there for the saving, all someone needs to do is coordinate a trucking company to pick up a selected bird, and plug in the money factor. EVERY aviation museum in the country that doesn't have an H-34 should take the opportunity. This is tax writeoff money for the average middle class citizen. Deliver a chopper to your favorite museum before you fill Uncle Sam's pockets this tax season.

Would you rather pay three grand for the littlest storage shed on the lot at Home Depot, or have one very historical storage shed delivered to your property? 8) Get creative and save some artifacts folks!

Funny...my neighbors say that's crazy talk when I voice ideas like this and threaten to file complaints with the city if I do it...will you be my neighbor?

Thanks. Any old airframe that has a CG history is of interest to us. Believe it or not, a year or so back the group got an old H-52 off of EBay. I've been calling around on that H-34. No solid leads yet.

It appears that apart from the odd one or two that have been sold from Jack's yard, the majority are still in location.

Good to hear. I hope these aircraft get parted out and saved any way they can. Im surprised that somebody hasn't purchased a good number of these to convert to Turbine and use them as contract birds. Or is there no money in it?

You woild think so...extenal lift, logging, etc.
If I had a lift operation, I'd buy a couple as spare airframes.
Remember, the airframes on helicopters are the inexpensive parts. Buying the engine(s), rotor system, transmissions would be a a very expensive undertaking.
Anyone know if P&W still supports the Twin-Pac program or did they sell it off to another party?

Also, are there good supplies of blades and transmissions left?

There's money in doing it with UH-1's as Bell has continued support of the type. I don't think Sikorsky is willing to help maintain their older designs.
Also, the Mi-8 and Ka-26/126/226 helos are hard values to beat in the same class.

Are they certified in the US?
Not a huge deal for external ift operations, but some I'm sure.
Also, unless they're "carded" (Approved by the USFS) they can't be used on forest fire duty.

Like Erickson Aircrane, couldn't somebody build new parts under license from Sikorsky?

I think our sister company to the North still supports them.
