EAA website has added Glacier Girl, "CAF Mitsubishi Zero", and somebody's C-46 Commando. Any educated guesses?

I'll bet the C-46 is coming from the Warriors and Warbirds museum. Former CAF Tinker Bell

Kid, does Warriors & Warbirds even own Tinker Belle? Their website sounds like purchase is still in fundraising mode (Of course, what exactly is an updated website?).

The aircraft list on the EAA AirVenture website was updated today:

http://www.airventure.org/attractions/aircraft.html

I am curious about the P-80 listed in the final grouping.....is there actually going to be a flyable P-80 Shooting Star at Oshkosh (not aware that there is one)?? Or are they just talking about a non-flying static example?

Or do you think (I know it doesn't make sense) that P-80 is a generic listing for T-33 (several of which are often at Oshkosh)?

Now THAT was quite an update...Good to see "Ol' 927" on the list.

I don't think the "P-80" on the list would be a static. The EAA Museum already has a static P-80--as well as F-84, F-89, etc.--that are typically on outdoor display during Airventure that I'd expect to see on the same list (if that were the case).

Good to see an F6F added to the list (Whose?). Still hoping for a certain PB4Y to be added as well.

EVENING WITH ASTRONAUTS, NAVAL CHIEF CAPS OFF MEMORABLE ‘NAVY DAY’ AT EAA AIRVENTURE 2011
Capts. Gene Cernan and Jim Lovell to speak on naval experiences

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (May 23, 2011) — As part of the week-long Centennial of Naval Aviation commemoration at EAA AirVenture 2011, a special “Navy Day” on Wednesday, July 27, will be filled with must-see attractions – capped off by an evening forum featuring renowned astronauts, Capt. Gene Cernan and Capt. Jim Lovell. Adm. Gary Roughead, the current U.S. Chief of Naval Operations, will also join Cernan and Lovell on stage for the Theater in the Woods program.

The 59th annual edition of “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration,” scheduled for July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, will be filled with special attractions, appearances, and forums all week as part of its Tier 1 event status from the U.S. Navy for the year-long centennial festivities.

Former “Good Morning America” host David Hartman will moderate the evening program as Cernan and Lovell will recall how their experiences as U.S. Navy pilots forged their careers into NASA and space exploration. Additional special guests will be announced at a later date. Theater in the Woods programming is presented by M&Ms.

“We are always honored to welcome Gene Cernan and Jim Lovell to AirVenture, and are honored to host Admiral Roughead as we celebrate 100 years of naval aviation,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA and AirVenture chairman. "Not only can you experience the heritage of Navy aircraft, you can hear the stories of the people who built this legacy. This event will put the finishing touch on a very special day, one of many at AirVenture.”

Cernan (EAA #456102), who served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy, is one of only two men to have flown to the moon twice, becoming the last man to step foot on the moon as commander of Apollo 17 in 1972. Lovell (EAA #320945), who was a U.S. Navy test pilot, served on several missions, including Apollo 8 in 1968 that was first to orbit the moon and Gemini 7 space flight that lasted nearly 14 days in 1965. Lovell is well known for commanding the near-disastrous Apollo 13 that became a model of crisis ingenuity and teamwork.

From unique restorations and replicas to today’s modern fighters, the largest collection of naval aircraft spanning all eras ever assembled in one location will highlight AirVenture all week. Naval aircraft will be showcased on ConocoPhillips Plaza, and dozens will be located at special parking area dubbed “NAS Oshkosh” located just east of Scotts Warbird Alley.

Navy World War II-, Korean-, and Vietnam-era warbirds will join modern day fighters in a special tribute to naval aviation during the day’s afternoon air show, honoring the legacy built over the past 100 years by the veterans who served and sacrificed in them.

The always popular Warbirds in Review on July 27 will profile the Navy pilots and current owners of a comprehensive list of naval aircraft on Scotts Warbird Alley, including an F8F Bearcat painted in a Blue Angels scheme, an F7F Tigercat, and an award-winning SNJ Tailhook trainer. Additional forums and interview sessions will be held alongside featured aircraft on ConocoPhillips Plaza.

“Navy Day” will kick off with an “Honor Flight” that will transport approximately 80 World War II naval veterans from AirVenture on a Southwest Airlines 737 to Washington, D.C., where they will spend the day touring the memorials in their honor before returning to Oshkosh to a heroes’ welcome.

AirVenture 2011 will also feature tribute days dedicated to aviation legends Burt Rutan (Thursday, July 28) and Bob Hoover (Tuesday, July 26) as well as several attractions and events commemorating the 100th anniversary of air mail service.

HONOR FLIGHT AT AIRVENTURE 2011 WILL FLY WWII NAVY VETERANS TO D.C. MEMORIALS
Southwest 737 to depart AirVenture grounds as part of ‘Navy Day’ festivities

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (May 26, 2011) — EAA, Southwest Airlines, and Old Glory Honor Flight, Inc., have joined together to give World War II Navy veterans the opportunity to visit the powerful memorials dedicated in their honor with an Old Glory Honor Flight departing from EAA AirVenture 2011 on Wednesday, July 27, as part of “Navy Day” festivities.

The 59th annual edition of “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration,” scheduled for July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, will be filled with special attractions, appearances, and forums all week in celebrating the Centennial of Naval Aviation.

On the morning of Wednesday, July 27, a Southwest Airlines 737 aircraft will fly approximately 80 World War II veterans who served in the U.S. Navy from the AirVenture grounds to Washington, D.C. After a reception greeting them at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, the veterans will be taken on a day-long tour of memorials honoring the sacrifices they made preserving freedom. Those stops will include the World War II Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial, and the National Naval Museum.

“We at Old Glory Honor Flight are very excited to have the opportunity to honor the World War II veterans of Northeast Wisconsin at AirVenture 2011,” said Drew MacDonald, Old Glory Honor Flight president. “With the generous support of EAA and Southwest Airlines, we are planning a very special tour for our heroes that is a perfect fit with AirVenture’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of naval aviation.”

The Old Glory Honor Flight veterans will return to AirVenture shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, and receive a welcome home reception that many did not receive more than 60 years ago.

“The Old Glory Honor Flight at AirVenture in 2010 was memorable experience for all involved, which we hope to match and surpass as we pay tribute to very deserving Navy veterans,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA and AirVenture chairman. “We are honored to partner with Southwest Airlines and the Honor Flight Network, giving these heroes the opportunity to see the memorials dedicated to their service and allowing them to receive the recognition they deserve.”

The Old Glory Honor Flight, the Northeast Wisconsin hub of the Honor Flight Network, recognizes World War II veterans for sacrifices and achievements by providing a memorable, safe and rewarding tour of Washington, D.C., memorials at no cost.

Additional information on the Old Glory Honor Flight is available at http://www.oldgloryhonorflight.org.

AirVenture 2011 will also feature tribute days dedicated to aviation legends Burt Rutan (Thursday, July 28) and Bob Hoover (Tuesday, July 26) as well as several attractions and events commemorating the 100th anniversary of air mail service.

LARGEST FLYING AIRSHIP IN THE WORLD HEADING TO EAA AIRVENTURE 2011
Public flights on massive Zeppelin NT will be available for purchase

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (June 2, 2011) — The largest flying airship in the world – the Farmers Airship, a Zeppelin NT owned and operated by Airship Ventures – is headed to EAA AirVenture 2011, where it will offer 45-minute scenic flights over the AirVenture grounds and Winnebagoland for purchase.

The 59th annual edition of “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration” is scheduled for July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

Airship Ventures, based out at Silicon Valley’s Moffett Field in California, is touring the Farmers Airship throughout the country this summer for the first time in partnership with Farmers Insurance. Flying since 2001, Zeppelin NTs have carried more than 80,000 passengers. The Farmers Airship is the fourth and most recent Zeppelin NT to be built and has been offering scenic “flightseeing” tours above California since 2008.

“Crossing the country with our partners Farmers Insurance we’ve brought the joy of the Zeppelin experience to dozens of communities and events, but I am not sure we’ve ever experienced one quite like AirVenture,” said Alexandra Hall, Airship Ventures CEO. “We’re thrilled to be bringing the first Zeppelin to sail the U.S. skies in more than 70 years to Oshkosh and celebrate aviation alongside so many enthusiasts and fans.”

At 246 feet in length, the airship is 15 feet longer than a standard Boeing 747, and 50 feet longer than the largest blimp currently operating. The gondola accommodates one pilot, one flight attendant, and up to 12 passengers, with luxury features including huge panoramic windows, onboard restroom with window, and a 180-degree rear observation window.

“No matter how many times you’ve been to AirVenture, there is always something new to see and experience,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA and AirVenture chairman. “We are delighted to welcome Airship Ventures and the Farmers Airship to the one place in the world where all forms of aviation come together.”

With a top speed of 77 miles per hour and maximum flight range of 500 nautical miles, the Zeppelin NT is able to land, exchange passengers, and take off again in under five minutes – all within a 600-foot diameter landing area. The ship’s maneuverability is due in large part to its innovative propulsion system, utilizing three 200-horsepower, variable pitch, vectoring engines manufactured by Lycoming. Able to work independently of each other, two engines are mounted on the side of the hull, with the third mounted at the rear – powering two propellers, one for lift and one for thrust.

The engines are mounted to a light yet rigid framework, composed of triangular carbon-fiber frames, and three aluminum lengthwise beams braced by polymer cables. This distinguishes a Zeppelin from “blimps,” which maintain their shape entirely due to the internal pressure from contained lifting gas.

Like blimps, the Zeppelin NT uses non-flammable helium for lift, contained in a tear-proof outer envelope composed of high strength multi-layer fabric – manufactured by ILC Dover, the same company that creates the fabric for NASA space suits.

The Farmers Airship will be based at Pioneer Airport during AirVenture. Public tours aboard the Farmers Airship will be offered for $399/person July 22-31; tour duration is 45 minutes. To purchase tickets in advance, call 650-969-8100 ext. 111 or e-mail reservations@airshipventures.com.

AirVenture 2011 is filled with must-see features and attractions all week, including the week-long Centennial of Naval Aviation celebration, tribute days dedicated to aviation legends Burt Rutan and Bob Hoover, and REO Speedwagon in the Opening Day Concert presented by Ford Motor Company on Monday, July 25, as well as the widely popular Night Air Show and Daher-Socata Fireworks capping off “Super Saturday” presented by Southwest Airlines on Saturday, July 30.

Advance purchase admission tickets at a discounted rate as well as camping for all dates are now available at www.airventure.org/tickets.

BOEING 787 APPEARING AT EAA AIRVENTURE 2011
Dreamliner open for tours for first time anywhere on Friday, July 29

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (June 15, 2011) — EAA and AirVenture chairman Tom Poberezny confirmed today that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is scheduled to make a landmark appearance at EAA AirVenture 2011 on Friday, July 29, giving aviation enthusiasts a glimpse into the next generation of commercial airliners.

“We’re proud and excited that Boeing recognizes the significance of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in the global aviation community,” Poberezny said. “This represents two significant firsts – the first time anywhere that aviation enthusiasts can tour the 787 and the first public showcase of the 787 in North America.”

For one day only, attendees can tour the Boeing 787 Dreamliner while it is on static display on ConocoPhillips Plaza and witness it in flight during its arrival and departure. It is scheduled to arrive at 9:30 a.m. on July 29 and depart following that day’s afternoon air show, at approximately 6 p.m.

EAA AirVenture 2011, the 59th annual edition of “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration,” is scheduled for July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is an all-new airplane featuring a host of technologies that provide exceptional value to airlines and unparalleled levels of comfort to passengers. It is the first mid-size airplane capable of flying long-range routes, enabling airlines to open new, non-stop routes preferred by the traveling public.

“It’s a great honor to be able to share our airplane with aviation enthusiasts,” said Capt. Mike Carriker (EAA #505412), chief pilot for the 787 program. “We’ve made tremendous progress in finishing certification testing on our 787 flight test fleet with Rolls-Royce engines. It gives us a short opportunity to be able to share this airplane with the attendees of EAA AirVenture 2011.”

Composite materials, more-electric systems, advanced aerodynamics and modern engines combine to make the 787 more fuel efficient and provide lower operating costs. Passengers will appreciate the cleaner cabin air, higher humidity and lower cabin altitude that combine to help them feel more refreshed after flying on the 787. Other innovations include larger windows with electrochromatic shades, bigger onboard luggage bins and reliable LED lighting.

“Showcasing innovation, the introduction of new designs, and major industry announcements are key elements that solidify EAA AirVenture Oshkosh as aviation’s world showcase,” Poberezny said. “Large or small, AirVenture represents the broad spectrum of aviation like no other event. The appearance of the Boeing 787 is one of many firsts you can expect to see at Oshkosh in 2011.”

FORD ‘BLUE ANGELS’ MUSTANG TO BE SOLD JULY 28 AT EAA AIRVENTURE 2011
One-of-a-kind vehicle inspired by naval aviation team donated for Young Eagles

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (June 22, 2011) — For the fourth straight year, the Ford Motor Company has created a unique, “one of one” aviation-themed vehicle for auction to benefit the EAA Young Eagles program. The one-of-a-kind 2011 “Blue Angels” Mustang GT will go to the highest bidder at the Young Eagles Auction during EAA AirVenture 2011, which will be held July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

The Ford “Blue Angels” Mustang pays tribute to 100 years of naval aviation, which will be celebrated all week at AirVenture 2011 as part of its Tier 1 event status from the U.S. Navy for the year-long Centennial of Naval Aviation festivities. It will be on display inside the Ford Hangar during EAA AirVenture.

Ford’s continued generous support for the EAA Young Eagles program has raised more than $1.3 million in recent years. Young Eagles, introduced in July 1992, has already flown more than 1.6 million young people at no charge, making it the largest youth aviation education program in history.

The exterior of the “Blue Angels” Mustang GT, which was inspired by the acclaimed naval aviation demonstration team, features a unique blue chrome finish with a yellow gloss accent and “Blue Angels” scripted along with its iconic crest. The Blue Angels’ crest is also stitched into its leather Recaro seats. Under the skin, the “Blue Angels” Mustang is all performance with a super-charged 5.0L V8 engine producing more than 500 horsepower and Ford Racing handling pack, performance exhaust and race track brake components.

“Ford is a long-time supporter of EAA and our mission to showcase the finest innovation and technology in flight,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA chairman/president and AirVenture chairman. “The high interest among aviators in the U.S. Navy and the ‘Blue Angels’ Mustang team will make this a very sought-after item and ensure EAA’s ability to do some amazing things for our future aviation enthusiasts.”

The Young Eagles Auction is part of the EAA Gathering of Eagles on Thursday, July 28, at the EAA AirVenture Museum. The Gathering of Eagles annually draws more than 1,000 aviation enthusiasts in support of Young Eagles and other EAA programs that inspire young people to become the engineers, aviators, astronauts, scientists, and innovators – the aviation pioneers of tomorrow.

The “Blue Angels” edition joins the three other one-of-a-kind Mustangs created by the Ford Design and Engineering teams for the EAA Young Eagles Auction in recent years, each desired by both aviation and automotive enthusiasts alike.

In 2008, the Mustang AV8R, with cues from the F-22 “Raptor,” introduced the glass-roof canopy and delivered a record auction contribution of $500,000. In 2009, the AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll” auctioned was crafted in honor of WWII aircraft. In 2010, Carroll Shelby, a former U.S. Air Force flight instructor, and Jack Roush, a long-time P-51 pilot, collaborated for the first time to create the SR-71 “Blackbird” inspired by the legendary reconnaissance jet.

“The Ford Design and Engineering team members have really embraced the opportunity to build these one-off projects,” said Kevin Keling, Ford corporate events manager. “We develop the theme early and then marvel at the creativity and ingenuity of the team. This blue chrome paint is fantastic and unlike any thing you'll see in production anywhere. The small details such as puddle lamps projecting jets are amazing!”

To participate in the auction, pre-qualify by contacting Matt Miller in the EAA Development Office at 800-236-1025 or email mmiller@eaa.org by Monday, July 25. Visit http://www.airventure.org/gathering for more information.

SPECIAL AIRVENTURE VEHICLE TRAFFIC PATTERN DESIGNED TO EASE ACCESS FOR ATTENDEES, RESIDENTS

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (June 22, 2011) — In an effort to keep motorists moving toward their intended destinations in a reasonable amount of time, a special traffic pattern will be in place during EAA AirVenture 2011 near its main access point from U.S. 41.

The 59th annual edition of “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration” is scheduled for July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

The AirVenture traffic loop, encompassing South Park Ave., 20th Ave., and Washburn St., will have special restrictions and police-controlled intersections to accommodate the high volume of traffic during AirVenture. Designated lanes for local and AirVenture traffic will be established to ease congestion and keep motorists moving along in a safe, orderly fashion.

Although U.S. 41 is in the midst of a major upgrade project this year, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will ensure two lanes of traffic are open in each direction during AirVenture.

Among the important items for AirVenture attendees as well as Oshkosh residents and businesses to note:

• No AirVenture or U.S. 41 access from South Park Ave. westbound. No thru traffic from South Park Ave. westbound at Koeller St./Knapp Street Rd. Left turn to local businesses ONLY from 20th Ave. westbound to South Park Ave.

• No thru traffic from Koeller St. to South Park Ave. Local businesses on Koeller St. may be accessed from 20th Ave.

• Exit ramps from U.S. 41 to South Park Ave. will be closed from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29, and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 30. This is in place to expedite the traffic flow leaving AirVenture during these hours. Exit ramps from U.S. 41 to Wis. 26/Waupun Rd. will remain open during these hours, providing access to the AirVenture grounds from the south via Poberezny Ave.

• Southbound ramps to and from U.S. 41 at 9th Ave. will be closed throughout AirVenture due to U.S. 41 reconstruction. Northbound ramps to and from U.S. 41 at 9th Ave. will be open, as will the 9th Ave. overpass.

General parking on the AirVenture grounds can be access from the north via South Park Ave., while those who are camping are urged to use the Wis. 26/Waupun Rd. exit from U.S. 41 and approach Camp Scholler from the south.

Maps plus additional information on alternate routes can be downloaded at www.airventure.org/driving.

Sweet...two FW 190's! My guess would be Frasca's and Kirkland's? Though I'd imagine Yagen's will be flying in the states by then as well, if not very soon enough.

Will be good to see a Grumman Duck (I presume this would be Chuck Greenhill's), as well as the Seafire XV again! And looking forward to seeing Conrad's Wildcat in person.

Thank you for the link, Dan!

The Seafire XV is a GORGEOUS aircraft. I got to see it at a small local show on Memorial Day weekend. And was surprised to hear that it was registered just down U.S. Hwy. 54 from me in Jefferson City,MO.
