Good news and bad news.

With a bit of snopping and digging, Paul McMillan and myself have located the family of Lt WAH Howland.

Bad news.

William "Bill" Anthony Hoppin Howland died of natural causes on Monday, Oct. 3, 2005

The daughter has now contacted Taras at A&T.

Hopefully they still have his stuff.

As he was a US Navy pilot from 1937 until 1941 and with American Airlines from 1941 until 1973.

His daughter was also a flight attendant with AA.

She is now a councillor and deals with PTSD

Good news.

Now to find $300k from somewhere!

I know it is speculation, but I thought I'd share this bit of information so please just take it for what it is  Kermit Weeks just posted a picture on his facebook page of he and Taras together in San Diego. According to Kermit he is flying out to the U.S.S. Nimitz... I asked Kermit if this had anything to do with a particular TBD near San Diego... Hmmm pop2

Saw that on his FB page as well... there may be other things afoot as well, who knows. I can't see the TBD going anywhere but Pensacola, which makes me wonder what Kermit has up his sleeve with Taras.

Let the rabid, unfounded speculation commence!

I don't think much speculation is called for, the San Diego trip seems to to be a PR trip out to a carrier for a group of warbird folks.

Here's to hoping they finally get a Devastator up to the surface. Good luck...with the navy, you'll need it.

It's a shame TIGHAR couldn't be bothered to recover "theirs". (Anyone know a cure for tunnel vision?)

There is an interesting note on TIGHAR's website. I'm making an update, plain and simple, all I'm going to do is note that this was stated on their website:
We’ll recover the TBD in 2013 if the plan and the funding can be finalized in time.

We have a window of opportunity in the next twelve months where a lot of threads are weaving together into a fabric we can use. We are looking forward with great joy to having this wonderful project come to fruition.

Actually, I lied, I do have one bit of cynical speculation: Did they decide to focus on recovering "their" TBD only because of the San Diego recovery effort. (Ya think they been reading this forum?)

It's great how short and to the point their updates are. The AE faucet has developed a drip.
