In the 1980s, the following services got the following movies:
USN: Top Gun
USAF: Iron Eagle
US Army: Firebirds
Now, tell me again about how bad Top Gun was after seeing the other two? :?
Besides, it looks like the USMC got hosed in the same timeframe. I don't recall a current (to the timeframe it was filmed in) movie about USMC aviation since, "The Great Santini"?

Is Fire Birds the one where one of the idiots has left eye dominance but is right handed so they strap a toy periscope to his head with some panties and make him drive around in a jeep until he is magically cured? ahhh movie magic. pop1

Yep. I wound up serving alongside someone who'd been a ground crew member on the Apaches used in the movie. He told me he heard senior Army leadership around the 'set' all talking about how every was going to wanna join the Army after the movie came out, just like Top Gun did for the Navy. Boy, that sure didn't happen, did it?
So like I said, go watch that movie and come back and again tell me how bad Top Gun was. At least TG was entertaining!

if the hollywood moguls make a sequel w/ maverick / cruise coming back, then they had better portray him as an admiral by now. it would not bode to well for navy recruiting to have a near 30 year pilot still as a lieutenant!!
