Not to mention the museum has artifacts from the original crash site...

Now that you put it in that context, I can see your point. I think the story + the artifacts make it pretty hard to go with another representation. And it's not like there will suddenly be +1 "Belle" named B-17's. That number will stay the same. ;)

Thanks Chad. I think it will be a winner in the long run. I can see the point about a paint scheme that stands out more, but I think the story is what makes this one stand out, and will make it stand out in years to come.

Whoopss....I see this was sort of already mentioned.............

Nonetheless, it needs to be remembered that Liberty Bell 7 was the name of Gus Grissom's Mercury capsule, and when the Miss Liberty Belle name was originally applied to the B-17G, the tie over to the gentleman for whom the air force base was named was a significant part of the naming decision.

Scott we are thinking that it is probably pretty much the reason it was named that. I am wondering if for that matter if anyone at Grissom Ever new the story of the MLB

And that is as good a reason as any to choose a representative paint scheme from the 305th at an Air Base that is(was) home to the 305th.

How many years has it been named that? But why let that cheapen the sacrifice of the original crew of MLB's sacrifice by folks proclaiming that it now is not good enough? As a result of choosing that name years ago, the museum now has been given artifacts from the very aircraft for which it was originally and unintentionally (in that regard) named. How can that be bad? How can that not make them a better museum? 8) It's not like there were 5 aircraft named "Belle" something in WWII and now in 2010, all 5 are represented. It was not an uncommon naming trend.

Memphis Belle aside, what year were the other "Belles" so christened?

The movie Belle: probably '88/89
The others?

Thanks to Chad, better known as our very own Django, we now have a design for our shirts. These shirts are going to be used for fundraising for the restoration of the B-17. They will be coming soon!

Will do! And thank you. The shirts will be coming soon, and will run around $20.00 depending on our final cost. All profit from the shirts goes straight to the B-17 restoration.

Thanks guys!

That's pretty funny Jesse.

Holedigger, don't send it yet. The serial number is wrong! Or did you do that on purpose since it is representatively MLB?
