This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Hi John
I still wonder whether we could have pulled the Whirlwind project off............

Hi Simon,
Ah the Whirlwind, I guess we will never know but it was fun at the time.
And to echo DaveM2, anyone heard from Indiana Tony ?

Chaps,
Interesting what was going on at the time on WIX.
I admit I'm a lurker, but I do miss the old times with
Tony King, Christer etc.

Being a newbie, please take this with a grain of salt...just my un-asked-for opinion.
I remember some of Tulio's input here as well as a couple of other sites and--as already mentioned--it was/is accurate and very knowledgeable. I can see his point too regarding his absence though. There are some sites where there is an almost palpable tension just reading the posts and to have the audacity to offer an opinion if one is not part of the predominant "clique" simply invites personal attack. Like anywhere, there will be dissension here at times but I still think this is the "go-to" place. I am a mechanic, pilot, enthusiast, modeler, would-be historian, etc but I am not part of the warbird community so am not privy to the inner workings and personal dynamics there, but agree with some of the "older hands" advice about putting stock in what some folks have to say. Everyone knows the many expressions about opinions... Being a moderator on a couple of other warbird-related sites, there is a lot of good input from many different folks--regardless of their personal/professional background. As a case in point, on the P-51 SIG, we have one member who has nothing at all to do with aviation but his knowledge about vintage aircraft radios is incredible and he is our radio go-to guy. All I'm getting at is that I agree that there can be snarky elitists out there, but everyone benefits from a good and cordial environment so it doesn't make any sense to let someone with "more dollars than sense" ruin an otherwise good discussion. Even if one is only a "rivet counter" type, that person may exhaustively study particular aspects of aircraft and just wants to offer whatever input they might have. Folks not directly involved may get a bit excited at the thought of offering up some tidbit of information.
I hope Tulio and some of the others you folks have mentioned will seriously think about re-investing in the discussions here. Personally, being an outsider looking in, I learn a great deal from you who are in the know and/or operating the aircraft which I love to read about... Thanks for a great site and a great learning experience.
Regards,
Jim
