According to WD#5 This MiG-17(Shenyang F-4) used to belong to the CAF. In fact the CAF name is still under the tail, anyone know how it ended up as part of the collection at Castle? Was it a trade? What did the CAF get in return?
TIA

I can't give you any specific answers, but if you refer to the airframe dossier...
ImageAerial Visuals - Airframe Dossier - Mikoyan Gurevich-Shenyang F-4 Fresco (NATO), s/n 2705, c/r N1VC
...but you will note that it was parked at the Castle Airport for some time having arrived there around 2005. There is a link to the previous location in the airframe dossier.

If anyone can provide any details about how this MiG-17 came to Castle I would like to hear as well.

Eric Presten invited me back to Sonoma to watch the Curtiss Jenny take some Navy vets up for some flights. It was especially appropriate since the Jenny is likely a former Naval bird. I didn't get any flying shots as I was shooting video at the time.

Eric mentioned this was the first time the Broussard had been outside in 10 years. I had to get a few more shots.

There are some gems here. At first I thought I would only be able to get pictures from the fence, but I was invited inside the perimeter and was able to get some nice close-ups. Enjoy...

I didn't get to meet Mr. Miller. The hangar was open, but without being invited in I wasn't about to go poking around.

Next stop was Marysville. I was trying to visit the Museum of Forgotten Warriors on the western side of Beale AFB. The problem was my GPS had no idea how to get me from A to B, and was trying to direct me through the base. I tried going around the base, but it then took me down some rural roads that I swear have only see farm tractors in recent years. Eventually I gave up. Andy Marden later suggested I needed to approach from the west, so I adjusted my route via the link in an earlier post to show this. Maybe next time.

I would really like to know how this place got the name Grass Valley. All I saw was pine trees surrounding a pretty little town. The drive in from the valley was an incedible change of scenery. I was able to find the F-104 quite easily, and took some pictures in fantatastic late-day light.

I left Grass Valley headed east on Route 20. This put the sun to my back as it set. What a beautiful drive those conditions made as I made my way through the Tahoe National Forest. I stopped at look-out for a few photos, but they really don't come close to seeing it for yourself.

I continued onto Reno, eventually joining up with I-80. It was kind of funny as it wasn't hard to tell when I had crossed the stateline. Out of nowhere came lights, billboards and casinos! :-)

I had a ticket for Reno on Wednesday, but at one point I was told I would not be missing much on Wednesday if I didn't go, so instead I decided to continue my quest for roadside warbirds. If you would like to see my route go to...

I got up and left my room at the hotel and hit the road early. First stop was a Vetrans Memorial Park in Winnemucca.

I have been looking forward to visiting this place for some time. I like C-119s, especially the ex RCAF machines being a Canuck.

I started to head west again, and then turned south at Route 95. I wanted to get pictures of the A-7 at the auto mall. The auto mall is no longer there, but the A-7 still is.

So there I was headed west along route 50 towards Caruthers. I hadn't planned to stop in Silver Springs, but when I passed by airport I quickly pulled over when I spotted a F-111 hulk at the airport.
