Re: Kids Pedal Planes, these are very cool.......

Cool thread and some great looking airplanes posted here. Here are a couple Pitts that I built. The first for my daughter (pink), the second for my niece(red). I modified the second Pitts to have a working prop based on the plans for the P-51. I also like to cut up the instrument panel sticker and build a more scale panel out of very thin plywood and glue to the original panel bulkhead. I also add switches and lights to make it more interesting. I also like to put sound devices available from RAM r/c products to add engine noises when you press the starter switch. The last picture is of the P-51 which I'm trying to finish up quickly for my stepson's baseball team raffle. If I had more time, I wanted to do a more complex paint scheme as some of you have done, but I'm just going with the Bud Anderson "Old Crow". It has a more scale panel too, but I didn't get a chance to add engine and machine gun noises like I wanted to do. I did build little scale guns that are on the leading edge though.

Here are some pics of a P-51 pedal plane (plans from Aviation Products, Inc.) that I recently built for my 3-year-old. It is modeled after "Wee Willy II" and features a lighted panel and a seat belt made from an old cloth belt. I was so excited once the assembly was completed that I let the kiddo ride it around for about a year before finally deciding to paint it. It is the ultimate toy...makes me wish I was 3 feet tall again!
