This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Hi Matthias,
Thank you for taking the awesome pictures. I really appreciate it and I definitely owe you some cold beer! Hopefully we can meet sometime in person and we can enjoy those beer together.
If you ever have the chance to take some pictures of the inboard and outboard boxes together, that would be great. The boxes are slightly different sizes due the the tapering of the wing. As a result, the inboard boxes held slightly more ammunition than the outboard boxes.
And I concur, it was an ingenious design. They are the only ammo boxes that I am aware of that actually formed the top part of the wing. All other ammo boxes either fit into the wing, or the ammunition was stored in compartments that were already part of the wing.
Thanks again.
Ron

They are flame dampers/dampeners, and as the name suggests, the design cuts down on the amount of flame that can be seen from the exhausts...it's a night-fighter thing.

I hope they fly to the Legends ... as I said hope

Every time I see the owner of that beauty I told him "please bring the nightmare to the legends" ..... hope it works..... it also worked with the black color
btw. I got a mail from Sadeski jr. via "Korean War Project".... Who is Sadeski ?
You might know Major Al "Ski" Sadeski. He served for 23 years as marine pilot (Navy and Marines), later after his military carreer he was testpilot for Rockwell. Sadly Al Sadeski passed away a few years ago.
He got a bit famous while mid-air-collision with another Corsair while formation training. A few years ago that incident ran through the press cause his widow visited the crashside some 60years later. In his active time he flew 97 sorties over Korea with VMF-513. Back to the beginning of this text, his son told me via email that his father Al "Ski" Sadeski flew serial 124541 with VMF-513 in combat-sorties over Korea !!!!!!!!! So the history of that plane seems to have a pilots name !!!!!! I hope that I will get some pictures or a copy from the flightbook. Can anybody confirm this information ?

Cool, congrats! I liked the shot of that big bada$$ machine taxiing out from behind the tree. The sound is always incredible.

Matthias, thank you so much for the pictures and updates. That is one sexy bent winged bird.

Seriously, that is one of the coolest looking warbirds I've seen in a while.

I had the pleasure of seeing her fly last year at Legends. I will 'hope' with you that she returns as I expect to be there again this year and would love to see her in her new colours.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=42985&start=15Look at this!!!!
About half way down is a similar corsair!
The little piece above the exhaust is nice. A blinder for the pilot. I have never seen that before and obviously a field mod!
Even the 'spinner' is black.., no reflection coming off of this little darling!
Awesome aircraft!
