Isn't Hillary part of this adventure?

Not really, she only announced that later this year (actually July 2012) TIGHAR will do the long-awaited search for Amelia Earhart’s Lockheed Electra in the deep waters off the reef at Nikumaroro in the Republic of Kiribati. She was present when Gillespie signed the Antiquities Agreement with the Kiribati's. Nothing more than Gillespie's continuing attempt to get the media exposure for more funding. That he did with the help of Tim Mellon to the tune of $1,000,000.00 and change. Mellon since sued TIGHAR and Gillespie for fraud and misrepresentation. The suit was dismissed however, it is not know if Mellon will appeal according to his lawyer. No mention of Hillary on the TIGHAR website since.

Regarding the Miami Newspaper article: I've read bits and pieces about the Betty Klenck issue, nothing definitive though. Does anybody have an update on this aspect of the Earhart disappearance?

Ric Gillespie in 2013 interviewed Betty Klenck

Unfortunately Betty Klenck Brown passed away on June 18, 2014 never knowing if she helped solve the mystery of Amelia Earhart. She was 92. RIP

to do hyperspectral image analysis of that beat to heck piece of scrap metal found on Niku.

Just what exactly do they hope to determine from that process? I'd check the site but I can't bring myself to look at it again.
