What did Chuck say about Scott Crossfield?

Fri Sep 21, 2007 2:09 pm

He told what he honestly thought happened to Scott when he was asked. I have thoughts as well on that issue, but if you even start to question something, you are held as being disrespectful.

Fri Sep 21, 2007 3:13 pm

No disrespect, but wasn't there a taxi incident a couple of years ago with a T-6 with CY and his wife?

He wrecked the Ed & Connie Bowlin's T-6 (groundlooped?) in Georgia :?

landed with a 15 kt tailwind and ran off the runway into a ditch full of boulders. T-6G 53-4577 N2831D probable cause PILOT ERROR

I can not believe that this is a warbird site, but there are people here that want to knock one of history's greatest pilots. 208 different types of aircraft, first to break the sound barrier, 12 kills in a P-51 in WWII, flew just about every test plane out there, and did so until his 80's, and yet he doesn't meet your requirement? Well, I am not sure what your requirements of being a great pilot are, but good luck finding one as good as Yeager.

Sounds like he had no problem knocking Scott Crossfield

It's not like anyone here is making up stuff. Just
the facts. The Q was asked about his T-6 crash.
A lot of people haven't placed him on the pedistal
you and others have.
CY is pure controversy. Talk about Bud Anderson
or Bob Goeble if you want to talk about role models. 8)

I don't believe one person here has questioned CY's ability as a pilot. We all know how good you had to be to survive flight test in the 40's and fifties. He says Hoover was the greatest stick and rudder man ever. Hoover is equally complimentary of CY. What the common thread is in so many stories is how arrogant he can be to even some very accomplished warbird pilots on WIX. Has he somehow earned that right? If he has, then so have a bunch of other guys who have been through as much or more. But they don't have the history of repeated episodes of arrogance and hatefulness that CY has.
By the way Jack, that was a groundloop CY had in Georgia:

Your right, I was reading the full report and got lost after 15 kt tail wind and departed runway down embankment into boulders ripping gear off a/c. I assumed :?

Wonder if he reimbursed the Bowlins for damage to their plane?

I can tell you for a fact that " one of the greatest pilots " did something stupid during the Edwards Airshow in a P-51. The FAA rep said that if it had been anyone but Yeager he would have busted him. He also told the AF airshow coordinator that if Yeager was going to fly the following year that he would mandate a backseater just like the AF requires when other Generals fly.

Yes because the FAA never does anything stupid.
