I took another WIXer flying today in my Cessna 172. A dude called Hacker Haskins...he was ok. I think the Cessna was probably more powerful than other aeroplanes he had flown but he handled it remarkably well considering. I'm hoping he can be convinced to put pen to screen and write up his first PPL mission in the UK for us to read.

Anyway, here are some pictures we took of RAF Bentwaters, the ex. A-10 Thunderbolt base in Suffolk, UK. It's now closed although I think there is a group of ex. RAF Jaguars being stored on the airfield by the new civilian owner.

Funny you should ask....yes we did. It looks like it's been taken over by the Army.

Looks like she is in the midst of having her runway and taxiway removed?

Great shots of Woodbridge! I hardly recognize it anymore. It looks like they've built up the old rescue flightline a lot over the years...

Thanks for the photos. I was the penultimate (next to the last) Public Affairs offficer in 87-89. I worked out of the Wing HQ building in the top center of the second shot and just out of frame to the left in the first .

I had a lot of fun there...the stories I could tell!!

I never flew out of Bentwaters, just Woodbridge on a couple of HH-53 flights...including one to perform at the now closed Ipswich airport airshow. A high speed very low pass, what a ride.

Those portions were removed about 5/6 years ago nothing has been taken out since then. I don't think anything flies from there anymore however.

Hacker, checking in. Yes, it's true...I was scared spitless of the Skyhawk. Chris had to calm me down by talking me through the level 360s required to get the photos. The clarity of his shots don't show how erratic the photo platform was maneuvering.

Thanks for the flight, Chris! Look forward to doing it again sometime!
