Vietnam Air Displays

With the recent news of atleast one F-105 returning to the air and possibly more. I was wondering with more and more SEA major players (not forgetting CF's F-4 Phantom) returning to the skys in uniform if this might open up for Vietnam air displays at the air shows? You could show different facits of Aerial combat that took place over SEA. Close air support, FAC, strategic and tactical bombing, Helo Ops as well as dogfights. I know there are some Fishbeds on the civil register here in the states but are there any Mig-17 Frescos? Of course some types are still missing from the air. Would be nice to see, at the air shows, a flight of THUDs being escorted by a EB-66 Destroyer. I'm sure you' all could add to the list of aircraft that would be a must at a Vietnam Air Show.

Basically I'm imagining the idea of the Tora Tora Tora and BoB air displays but taking place with Vietanm era equipment. I thinks its way past time for addressing this era of our history at airshows. What do y'all think? Am I off the mark?

I know Brian Reynold's is restoring Hueys to full Viet Nam configuration.
they're very cool. at their show every year they do a helo assualt.

The Indiana Aviation Museum is actively displaying their A-37A Dragonfly. It was at Oshkosh this past summer.

Collings F-4 and TA-4
There was an F-100 airworthy at Reno, not sure of the current status of that one.
UH-1s and AH-1s
Quite a few O-2s
Several A-37s
C-130s still in service.
A-1s (several in Vietnam-era mrkings)
T-28s

Plus MiG-17s and -21s.

B-52s are still around

If only to have some more A-4s! and a few A-7s, A-5, A-3, A-6... for the Naval stuff, and a P-2 also!

I'd love to see a few more F-4s around, An F-105 would be great! Hope that comes about.

Hmmm SR-71 & U-2! That is what I want to see! I've seen a U-2 demo but never got to see an SR-71 fly.

IAM's A-37 is an awesome airplane. Can't wait to see it in action this summer!

Got to see the SR-71 fly when it came to Dulles. Did a fly-by at about 1000 ft.in afterburner. You could see the shock diamonds. Awesome :shock:

Too bad I didn't have a camera.

I think in the up coming years, someone will cordinate a Vietnam reenactment on the airshow scene. I welcome the idea and think its great!!

A few years back at the Terre Haute show they did a Vietnam act with a F-100, O2 and a Skyraider...PRETTY IMPRESSIVE!!

I knew of a guy down in Tucson that had a few flyable A-3's he was doing some government contract with Raytheon at that time. When I talked to him he had said that the contract was almost through and he did not know what he was going to do with the planes, he said maybe sell them to a collector or museum. He gave me the impression that he owned them outright and that he could do what ever with them when he was done with the contract. But I am just assuming he owned them.

They had one at NAS Whidbey a couple years ago and I chatted with them for a while. That A-3 is just to cool!

The F-101 is another one I'd love to see at the air show. Since there are already, potentially, a couple of THUDs coming down the pike. If an organization wanted to be unique, maybe restoring a Voodoo to flight might be the way to go....hint hint :wink:

Another thought regarding the B-52 that Tim made. Maybe the USAF could be persuaded into considering repainting one of the remaining BUFFs on active duty in SEA colors ala the "Hanoi Taxi". Granted today all the B-52s are "H" models but the SEA paint would still capture the spirit.

That number is acutally around 30. There are many more P-51's flying.

I hope to have at least one Huey up for the next airshow season.

"Hit my Smoke"

I've narrated and flown "Sandy" routines. I've got a tape of an actual SAR where the FAC won the Silver Star. I have them play some of that while we buzz around in the Duck. Sometimes a T-28 will join us. I had high hope s for a AD at the MAPS airshow last year, but it cancelled.

There will probably not be a MAPS airshow this year due to financial constraints.

If you need an O2, or maybe a Huey, give me a call.
