This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Just wondering if there is any possibility that it might be recovered? The water levels are lower than normal making it "easier" to do. More people could see it on land.

U.S Park Service will not allow recovery.

It's an attraction for tourists in their way of thinking.

I was there a year ago and I don't recall seeing an airplane in the water.

It's a few hundred feet down on the bottom.
It's pretty useless to leave it there.

Agreed, but it is a diver destination and if the Lake gets much lower the Park Service will start having guided tours through her.

This came up years ago and I recall the reason for not recovering the airplane was because of the depth of the water and the size of the aircraft. So, the real reason is because of the Park Service? What is the depth of the water now if the level is down?
Hmm- take on the U.S. Park Serivce...sounds like a job for Jerry Yagen, Paul Allen, or the Collings Foundation!

Levels are comming down every year. That area has been in a drought for some time. Escapes me why the Park Service is involved in this at all. Being a diver it would be a cool to see but it is still beyond recreational dive limits. I am new here so hope the link doesn't violate any rules.

Links are fine to post. Saw some graphs from Spring to present 2011, and the Lake is actually up about 20 feet since then, but is 'down' 96 feet. The Parks Svc. have gotten 'funny' about artifacts on their lands...

While it would be nice to see her saved, I'm hard pressed to think it worth it if folks can't even get "Doc" restored and she's not under water.

Unless your specialty dive ticket involves being punched for a technical dive to a B-29 140-170 feet down in the middle of a desert...how many places in the world can that happen?
