Hi folks,

I am going to be posting a year-end report on the biggest stories in warbirds over the past year and I'd like YOUR input.

Please post here your thoughts on what the biggest warbird stories, good and bad, of the past year were and we'll pull it all together at the end of the week for the story at www.warbirds-online.org (a WRG site).

Also, if you have any feedback on what you are looking forward to in the coming year relating to warbirds, please post that too!

Thanks!

The restoration of Glacier Girl and it flying to Sun N Fun, Oshkosh and other shows, but I can't be sure if that would be for 05 or 06. Also the Lanc attending a number of U S shows. For me personally it was getting to fly a Spifire in Canada with the Russell Group Hurricane, and ME109 to Willow Run and back and doing it successfully.

I'd say that the engine delimma for FIFI was a fairly significant issue in the Warbird community this year. It brought out some forward thinking with how to resolve the problem and it also showed an outpouring of support from some folks that weren't too involved in the Warbird community previously.

I'm not necessarily posting this because I'm proud of our woes, I post it only because I'm way too familiar with it. :?

I think that it has been an amazing year of Warbird sales. For Glacier Girl, Rare Bear, another Bearcat, Lone Stars P38.... thats a pretty big deal to have all those airframes move on to new owners! Just check out Courtesy's sales log! Tom Blairs Spitfire purchases. The sale of Little Demon (P-47) and a shuffling of aircraft at TFC. Alpine Fighter Collection (NZ) sell off.

Thats my thoughts.... to add along with Swamp Ghost.

Don't know if it applies here or not, but the amazing progress at Ezell Aviation on Red Bull's P-38 has certainly been some ongoing news we've been watching.

My picks for great warbird headlines of 2006:

1. Planes of Fame Returns P-26 and AT-12 (P-35) to Air.

2. Beck's New-Build P-51A Flies.

3. Seafire XVII SX336 Flies.

My hoped-for top warbird headlines of 2007:

2. 1:1 Scale Fw 190 Replica Makes Airshow Appearance.

3. 1:1 Scale Ki-43 Replica Makes Airshow Appearance.

4. Diamond Lil Remade into B-24A.

5. P-40B Flies at Duxford.

And finally, with holiday wishes to all:

1. No Warbird Crashes or Fatalities Occur in 2007.

K5083 has had some of the most thoughtful and best supported posts on WIX, and his last one about no crashes is the best. Can we get unanamous agreement on that? I sure would be nice to not dread Monday morning during airshow season.

Hmmmm...I'd have to say Diamond Lil's makeover and the ongoing soap opera of "Swamp Ghost".

This is a thread about 2006 in Warbirds in general... your topic seemed to be more focused on a persons own memorable moments.
