I know this isn't a tech board per say but hopefully this is appropriate. I have been getting a little tired of the whole heavy solvent routine for cleaning of small parts and I managed to end up with a 2 gallon ultrasonic unit. I have been hearing for years about how nicely these things can clean parts etc but I am wondering what kinds of solution people are using out there? Obviously something non-corrosive.

Thanks,
Ryan

for cleaning fuel injecter, I use Hopps #9 gun cleaner, great for removing carbon. if your unit is not heated, and has a metal tank, you can use your regular solvent, ie stoddard solvent. If it is heated, beware of solvents that can be heated to their flash points.

Most shops use mineral sprits.

There is no flame issue with mineral spirits in a heated ultrasonic unit? I always thought one of the advantages of an ultrasonic was that you could use an aqueous solution as opposed to all the solvents.

I’ve used a .5 gal ultrasound with Stoddard with mixed results. Total immersion is the key.

Ultrasonic works through cavitation which can ONLY happen with water based cleaners and water in the machine. NO SOLVENTS IN AN ULTRASONIC, NO mineral spirts (thats for a regular "parts cleaner").

Also keep your HANDS OUT when its running. Shut it off before you but your hands in, they can cause micro fractures of your bones.

Got LOTS of experience with them. Trust me on this one

Have a nice day
