Well, over the past few days ive looked over a few topicss on George Maudes P-40E. Seeing that some of the information people have been posting has been wrong, I thought I would start a topic and set the record straight. Below you will find the correct information about the P-40E. (For those who feel the information I post is wrong, im sorry but I must laugh. Because well the information is 100% right from the source, my Grandfather Mr. George Maude.)

The P-40E was built as a Kittyhawk I for the RAF

It was then purchased by the British Purchasing Commission and DID NOT fall under any lend-lease agreement and thus received NO US Army Serial Number.

It was then handed over to the RCAF with the serial AK803 and then was changed to 1034.

After serving in Alaska it was stripped of its camoflage paint.

It was then put up in auction in Patricia Bay, BC.

1034 was purchased by George Maude for only.. (Get this

).. $50!

After its purchase it was put on a raft of logs! and pulled over to Saltspring Island, BC by a fishing boat.

Upon reaching Salspring Island, BC the wings where cut off to fit it down the road.

The P-40E sat on Salspring Island, BC till 1976. Then it was towed back to Patricia Bay, BC by truck. They simple built a wod box in the back of a pickup and put the tail wheel in it. Then loaded it on the ferry and they where off.

Upon reaching Patricia Bay, BC the P-40E sat in a hager whell the wings where changed out for another pair, all in just 3 days!!

The P-40E has sat from the day of completion on the Victoria International Airport.

And here she is today. A beautiful peice of WWII History.

I wonder if he would sell it to me if I offered him 100 times what he paid for it?
That's cool!!!!!!!

I wonder how many more are out there like that still?
Doubt he would sell it for $5000. If you handed him $5000 he'd probly hand you a tail wheel!

Im hoping to have pictures of the moving of the P-40E back to Patricia Bay, BC soon! Hope you enjoyed the pictures!

Glenn Maude
