Warbird Information Exchange

I found these pictures on the following news group, but thought that they would be interesting. These are aircraft at the Brazilian museum started by the airline TAM.

It looks like a beautiful museum. I had never seen the "Me-109" before... anyone have any details on its restoration?

Gloster Meteor F-8 ... I didn't know that the Brazlians operated these.



Me-109G ... preserved axis aircraft says it's only partially original. Anyone have photos of it during its recovery or restoration? Details?

Republic P-47 Thunderbolt... this one's a beauty? I assume it's a former FAB example, but which one, and when was it restored?



Lockheed 049 Constellation, and what looks like a Noord.


Anyway, thought you guys would like to see these. Sure looks like an impressive museum.

PS... later in the thread there were these photos of an Me-109G-2 being restored... could this be the one at TAM? Anyone read Brazilian?

Here's a guess on the Portuguese;
Photo 1: "Another view of the Me-109G-2 positioned in front of the engine, a Daimler Benz DB605.

Photo 2: Our Me-109-G2 in South Charles. Our example coming is to be restored in Germany close to the two types sent and used in service in Brazil.

Wow, is that the Guggenheim? Impressive space. The corsair and the Tbolt sure are beauties. Ok, they ALL are.

I agree... it would be better flying here in the USA. Of some consolation, it is only dressed up like a birdcage corsair, and is actually a slightly later model F4U. Still, I hate to see any active vintage aircraft grounded... and some place where it doesn't have a historical connection. Mind you, it looks like it is being well looked after. You know how I feel about corsairs though Jerry!

There was a thread on this when it opened, the 109 consists of a new built fuselage from Robert Wagner, Germany and spent some time at the Laatzen Museum. Wings are supposed to be original and from Norway.

I'd at least have to say that besides being "glossy", it's the best color scheme I've ever seen that aircraft in!
I'm not trying to slight the NZ scheme, I'm just a tri-color navy kind-of-guy!

I'm glad you mentioned that, as I remember Steve Hinton once telling me that the birdcage really wasn't, but that the POF bird was originally built as a birdcage. If that is indeed the case, it would be nice to see POF convert theirs back.

POF's F4U I think is the oldest Corsair in existence. (unless someone finds one older on the bottom of the ocean!!)
