Nathan, you could seek a good exorcist before you join our group of addicts! Or you could go to the site of Mudge Dec. 28 and see the extensive responses to the same question.

Well you should get a medical first, seek out a fly school, buy Ron Machado’s Pvt Pilot book and stand by for the best years of your life.
And then read Mudge’s post. 8)

Good Luck,
Lynn

This is a discussion that could be a thread of its own, but...

I personally think finding a flying club that provides Part 61 instruction is financially a much better move than going to a Part 141 school.

It is less structured than a formal school, but in my experience it is much less expensive, too.

Wanna hear something funny...I just got a newsletter from the flying school that I went through...and the PPL price went up to just under $3000 for books, instructor, ground school, and 40hrs wet. Good deals are out there you just have to find them. I also recommed Sheble's Aviation at Kingman...take 2 weeks off and get your private.

Wow! That would be a great price if it's true. The PPL quote around here is in the $6500 ballpark just about anywhere, and from my experience, that's likely accurate for the average student.
