On December 7th, Bob and Chris Baranaskas took part in activities commemorating the 65th Anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale, New York hosted a ceremony for Pearl Harbor veterans as well as 9/11 FDNY veterans. Following the ceremony, 65 roses, sprinkled with water taken from near the sunken USS Arizona, were flown in two Skytypers to New York Harbor escorted by the Warbirds・P-40 Warhawk and P-51 Mustang. The roses were dropped over the Statue of Liberty at 12:55 p.m. local time・the 0755 time of the attack by the Imperial Japanese aircraft on the American fleet in Pearl Harbor. The dropping of the roses was a tradition started by Joseph Stanley Hydrusko in 1970 to honor his fallen comrades.

Great story David. Thanks for sharing it. BTW have you been over to the new museum on Ford Island?

Aloha Pat,
I am a displaced child. I can only wish I lived in Hawaii. Alas, I could only aid the Pacific Aviation Museum with their exhibits by e-mail. The ex-CAF Zero 21 has been properly painted...the next things to be done are fake hanging aileron balances, fake ground-adjust trim tabs on the rudder and ailerons, and a fake drop tank...I look forward to the small changes. They hope to make the Zero 'look' more like being on a CV deck by adding some rope tie-downs from the wings to points on the fake deck.
Cheers,
David
