Hello group,
I'm new here and want to put everyones minds at ease about the fate of the ex CAF PBY N68756. It was NOT scrapped. The message from Mike Tromm of the CAF was incorrect and out of date. I was the one who posted it to PBY@yahoo to begin with.
An Aussie, Mark Pilkington entered the picture last fall and purchased the aircraft in mid Dec. (City of Brownsville's scrapper no-showed) As of today, it's safe in Midland, Tx. while plans are formulated to ship it back to Australia where it will receive a static display restoration in RAAF colors.
And FYI, not it was not the CAF PBY that got upside down in the storm. That is N7179Y in Minnesota. They're trying to put it back together too.
I'm the son of a PBY veteran and a volunteer at Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, Tx. Our B-17 is on the cover of this months "Fly Past" magazine.!

Since you are here Doug, maybe you could enlighten us in regards to LSFM's PBY. Does the museum own it outright or is it on loan from NMNA ?

I heard also today that Provenance Fighters bought Glacier Girl and she will be making her way out here and that Mike Brown won Reno.

Yes, this is the other one, just like it............but in a different parallel universe.

Since my friend Doug seems to be absent tonight maybe I can answer the LSFM PBY question- Yes the Musuem does own it outright. In the past the issue of restoration to flying status was brough up, however I have been told that corrosion in the hull has made that impractical.

If any of you have any experience with donor financed, non- profit museum operation, you know the harsh reality of priorities of same. Lone Star is a [i]flying[/i] museum and large rustbuckets are pretty far down the list.
The story I heard,- take it with a lb. of salt- was that we had to take the PBY as a 'throw-in' on the deal to get the right deal on the F8F Bearcat from NMNA.

No problem on the double post, Doug. We can all use some good news every now and then. It's ironic that you put this thread up when you did, however, as I am going to Brownsville next week to relocate the remainder of the airplane (wings, tail section, floats, etc.) to my place in Midland.

I'll be sure to update everyone on that little road trip.
