Nice to see a P-40 without a shark mouth on it!

I think it's got a good paint job too. Agreed, a nice change from the sharks mouth.

Peace,

David

The ex Thurman P-40K was painted in original Aleutian markings when rebuilt in NZ. Unfortunatley once sold it got the usual shark mouth.
Be nice to see one of the ex Russian examples with the Red Stars retained.

Looks great, but I'm not sure how much is original. Judging by the pics of the hulk they started with, it's gotta be at least 50% new metal.

That's why I think it's so important to keep the Maude Kittyhawk preserved as-is. There are plenty of restored flying P-40s for us to enjoy.

A few years ago I saw a beautiful P-40E in Aleutian Tiger markings at the Yankee Air Museum show (before they started calling it Thunder.) I'm not sure what happened to it.

I think that this P-40K would have looked much better in Soviet AF markings.

The K is definitely the best looking of the "big mouth" P-40's. I read the article on this particular plane in a recent edition of Flight Journal. Eric Hokuf performed an absolutely astounding restoration on this plane. Bone stock by the book, and better than new - just like I like 'em! :D

same thing, nice change from the sharkmouth, not to mention a nice tribute to the aluetian campaign, so much is ignored as to that segment of the war.

KEN HAKE should also get mentioned for this restoration. He is responsible for all the metal work. His work also has helped alot of other P-40 restorations.

HI,

Its fantastic !! Not only is it an excellent restoration of the highest quality it is so refreshing to see a P-40 with out the over used shark mouth. It was a sad day when the first Aleutian tiger was repainted in the boreing glossy shark face motif that every P-40 restored in the last 40 years has been cursed with. The shark face is not accurate for the later model P-40 There are so many better nose arts and paint jobs that only survive as faded photos.

They now own 6 P-40s several are Russian wrecks all slated to be restored to flying. Maybe a red star P-40? Some of the down under P-40s have been finished in there original markings which as stated earlier is such a nice change over the shark mouth. I think the general public thinks that every P-40 ever produce by Curtiss came from the factory with a shark face.

Most of the air frame restoration work was done by Terry Renolds /Ken Hake before it was purchased by Mr. Fagan. Eric and crew did the detailing and finish work which if you have seen it is top quality. Ron really enjoys flying it and says its been a very dependable a/c. We can only look forward to seeing more fantastic restorations of P-40s , a P-38 ,SB2C, P-51 ect. from Granite Falls Minnesota!! Thank you Mr Fagan!!!!

Thanks Mike
