I'm sure all those planes were written off back then and junked. Today, everyone of those, except for maybe the first picture, would be repaired and flown again.

Yep, it's definately the landing light. It was originally located behind the wheel well, but I beleive it was moved outboard on the later Ds and Ms when the added the compressibility flaps.

I sure would like to see some photos of that P-47 before the accident. It appears to have a really cool paint job. Any other photos of that one, Jack??
