The weather was OVC006, and I heard that the flyover was planned at 500'A and 450KCAS.

Just for reference, all other USAF non-Thunderbird flyovers are 'officially' restricted at 1000'A and 350KCAS.

Fridays practice runs (three total) were competed at 800 feet and 450 kts from a 12 mile final. The route took them in the vincinity of my house. The Superbowl fly-by was lower about 500 feet due to the weather and slower. I work at Miami Approach and we assited with route planning.

I think the FAA(stands for Finally Abolish Aviation) would be all over us Warbirds if we flew 500' feet over a congested crowd, but I guess they don't control the military. I've many times seen demo jet team planes inside the safety line or even low over crowds. If a fast jet ever goes in it will be a horror scene with people. Some years ago we were asked to flyover the AirForce stadium for Notre Dame game. Gen. Grandfather in Gunfighter leading Bertz p-51, Jonhson A-26, and my Spitfire. This was about the first time I had ever done this in formation. I don't remember a min altitude brief, but I assumed we were supposed to get low enough to be seen. I do remember pulling up to clear the north stadium wall.Despite being a big underdog, the killers routed the Christians, so I guess we can claim a small share of the victory. I may assemble a hex flight to use on the heathens at College Station(lot's of station, not much college) next season.

Trey, I don't have any info on a video. This was around 1987?, you could look up the football scores. Notre Dame was almost always the heavy favorite, and this was an upset. I think the next year the Irish beat em by about 35 points. It's tough for the service schools to recruit the really top players. Next time I see Reg, I'll remind him of this and see about any photos, but in those days mini video cameras wern't common. It was sort of a mixed mission for me as Texas, my alma mater, and ND were rivals. Before planes, I was a big football fan, played and even coached a bit. I had the honor of watching Texas defeat ND in the Cotton Bowl years ago.
