Mohawk Colors Reclaimed

One of the few flyable OV-1D Mohawk aircraft within the United States will soon be making air show appearances wearing its original colorful markings. Brad Gibbs, Chief Pilot, and David Isner, Maintenance Technician and event scheduler of the Carolina's Historic Aviation Museum, expect to have the aircraft restored to its former glory in the first quarter of 2007- just in time for the upcoming air show season.

Once restored, the museum hopes to make numerous air show appearances and expects the aircraft to be a real attention-getter. On December 27, 2006, members of the museum met with photojournalist Greg L. Davis to exchange information, photos and copies of magazine articles published in the 1990s that provided details unavailable to the museum until now. Davis is the designer of the original paint scheme which included a full-color shark's mouth, a Mohawk Indian on the tails and various other markings. ICAS hopes to bring members a full report of the restoration in its 2nd quarter magazine.
